Overview
We are currently seeking to expand our capabilities with the addition of a Senior Analyst within our M&A and Business Development & Strategy group in Denver, CO. This analyst will join a small team of investment professionals who work with and support Summit’s senior and operating company management teams in the development and execution of Summit’s acquisition-led, high growth strategy. The Corporate Strategy & Business Development team operates in a result-oriented, fast-paced and collegial environment, and is seeking individuals who are eager to grow, can manage their time independently, and demonstrate the ability to think and communicate in a structured fashion. The analyst will be encouraged to take an active role in the acquisition processes and to develop and execute an investment thesis. The candidate must be willing to work in or relocate (without assistance) to Denver, Colorado.

Responsibilities & Objectives

  • Support the Summit management team in the development and execution of Summit’s organic and acquisition-led growth strategy
  • Coordination of due diligence process and transaction negotiation including collaboration with Summit internal operating company management teams, third party consultants and seller stakeholders
  • Financial analysis, due diligence and execution of acquisitions in the high-growth heavy building materials sector
  • Exposure to both target acquisition and Summit operating company day-to-day mining and production operations
  • Presentation of acquisition opportunities to the Summit executive management team as well as the Summit Board of Directors. Analysts will be expected to be active participants in conversations regarding investment decisions.
  • Active role in development of Summit’s long-term strategic and planning, including facilitation and leadership of regional and operational planning activities, strategic initiatives, and broader enterprise strategy pursuits
  • Development of strategic projects such as large internal capital investments, market expansion or entry initiatives, enterprise capabilities enhancement, etc. often as action outcome of strategic review process
  • Contribution to scenario planning, including acquisition and divestiture cases, and economic and capitalization outlook scenarios
  • Organization and development of internal management communications including growth workshops, acquisition prioritization and portfolio optimization
  • Career track potential for strong performers with the opportunity for promotion and possible path to a general management role

Skills & Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree from a top university with a record of top-tier achievement in work and education experiences
  • 3-5 years’ experience in Investment Banking and completion of formal investment banking training program
  • Demonstrated proficiency in analytical thinking including the ability to understand and analyze business plans and develop projections in growing markets
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and demonstrated ability to work with others
  • Demonstrated project management capabilities; proactive, self-motivated and able to work independently
  • Excellent research capabilities and demonstrated ability to synthesize and summarize industry research
  • Ability to conduct rigorous financial modeling and analysis. Significant experience with Excel a must.
  • Familiarity with and the ability to analyze and interpret financial statements
  • Legally authorized to work in the United States
  • Familiarity and prior experience with mergers & acquisitions (sourcing, negotiation, structuring, execution and integration), finance, private equity, accounting a plus
  • Experience with leveraged buyout (LBO) models
