EXPERIENCE AND COMPETENCIES

Essential

  • Clear strategic understanding of the relationship between public opinion, campaigns/communications, and political change.
  • Experience managing audience insights and applying diverse research methodologies for diverse strategic communications purposes.
  • A track record of working with or for market research and public opinion agencies.
  • Excellent analytical capabilities combined with a keen grasp of strategic storytelling and communications.
  • Strong data visualisation and presentation skills.
  • Experience undertaking audience and messaging research across multiple geographies and cultural contexts, particularly within Europe.
  • An innovative, collaborative and empowering way of working in a high- trust global community of peers.
  • Strong multidisciplinary skills that enable you to thrive in a fast-paced and versatile work environment and work smoothly across phone/video conferencing, Slack, email, Trello, etc.

Desirable

  • Experience with digital audience and message testing, tracking and analysis on social media and other online platforms.
  • A solid network of contacts in the audience insight field.
  • A general understanding of major debates and issues in the climate and energy space.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • University degree
  • 5 to 6+ years of relevant professional experience
  • 3+ years of relevant strategic communications experience or equivalent
  • English fluency
  • Excellent project management, administrative skills and computer skills (Outlook, Microsoft, Excel, PowerPoint)
  • Familiarity with some of the following: statistics software (e.g., SPSS, Python), segmentation analysis (e.g., k means clustering, two factor clustering), conjoint analysis, randomised control trials, multilevel regression with poststratification (MRP)
  • High-level writing skills
  • All candidates need to be in the possession of a work permit for their location, if applicable.

Responsibilities:

ABOUT THE ROLE

As ECF’s Senior Associate for Audience Insight & Research, you will be a part of the Strategic Communications Team, reporting to one of the Communications Directors. The aim of this role is to help make the work of ECF and our partners more evidence-based, data-driven and high impact. You will do this by designing, collecting, analysing and applying audience research and data, using best-in-class tools and methodologies to inform programmatic and grant-making strategies.
You should live and breathe audience research and data analysis and be able to guide others in how it is used to inform campaign strategy. You should have an experimental and entrepreneurial approach with an emphasis on testing, learning and refining, and be motivated to apply your skills to solve the climate crisis.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

As the Senior Associate, Audience Insight & Research you will have the following responsibilities:

  • Advise, design and manage mixed-method audience and messaging research in support of the Strategic Communications and Programme Teams, including polling, focus groups, message testing, social media listening, and audience segmentation.
  • Work with the Digital Team and Network Analysis Team to identify and apply cutting-edge data sources and tools to enhance traditional research methods.
  • Contract and manage third-party commercial and non-profit research and data providers, including ECF’s online survey data platform, Crunch.io.
  • Conduct regular and ad hoc reports on trends and analysis extracted from the data to inform strategy, reporting and grant evaluation.
  • Provide excellent support to ECF colleagues by assisting with data queries, providing timely analysis, and implementing training sessions that build the capacity of teams to apply data and insights in their work.
  • Work with the Strategic Partnerships and Impact & Learning Teams to assist in monitoring and evaluating the impact of the ECF’s work for internal and external reporting.
  • Advise partner organisations, where appropriate.
  • Stay on top of emerging trends and collaborate with audience insight practitioners and experts in the broader community on collaborative audience insight projects.
