AIA is building a new modern data and analytics platform using Azure Databricks and Power BI. We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Senior BI Developer to join our Technology team. This role will be involved in data migration from legacy BI and analytics applications to Power BI.
It will require significant stakeholder engagement, helping define requirements, driving design, development of fit-for-purpose BI and analytics solutions, take ownership of BI development, ensuring availability and stability, while promoting a high performing and collaborative environment.
This role is reporting into the Technical Delivery Lead – BI & Analytics and can be based in Sydney or Melbourne.

AIA is building a new modern data and analytics platform using Azure Databricks and Power BI. We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Senior BI Developer to join our Technology team. This role will be involved in data migration from legacy BI and analytics applications to Power BI.
It will require significant stakeholder engagement, helping define requirements, driving design, development of fit-for-purpose BI and analytics solutions, take ownership of BI development, ensuring availability and stability, while promoting a high performing and collaborative environment.

This role is reporting into the Technical Delivery Lead – BI & Analytics and can be based in Sydney or Melbourne. To do this successfully you will:

• Stakeholder Engagement: - Work closely with Business stakeholders and BI and analytics team within business to understand the requirements and translating them into reports, dashboards, and insightful visualizations.
• BI Development: Analyze data from various sources for report development. Design, develop and maintain robust and scalable reporting solutions. This involves creating queries, building data models, and designing visualizations using tools like Power BI or other BI platforms.
• BI Delivery - Take responsibility for development and delivery of BI reports, by working closely with Project Managers – providing inputs on technical tasks required, estimations and overseeing release management processes to ensure successful project implementation.
• Standardization: Developing all BI reports according to established standards and ensuring consistency across the solutions. Comprehensive documentation for all the BI solutions. Implementing proper user access controls. Optimize BI solutions for performance.
• Collaboration and Partnership - Collaborate with fellow IT stakeholders, including the Technical Delivery Leads, the Data Engineering team, and mentoring other BI developers both onshore and offshore, to develop BI reports.
• To be successful in this position you will have:
• A bachelor’s degree in information technology or related discipline with 6 + years of BI development, including data modelling, report design, and data visualization.
• Proficiency in SQL, T- SQL or other data manipulation languages.
• Proven experience with translating business requirements into appropriate business intelligence applications that yield actionable results.
• Proficiency in creating complex reports, dashboards, paginated reports and visualizations in PowerBI. Strong skills in using Power Query for data transformation. Understanding of data warehousing concepts and modelling within PowerBI.
• In depth knowledge of DAX for creating measures, calculated columns and complex calculations.
• Experience in implementing security within PowerBI and managing reports in the PowerBI service, including data refresh, scheduling and sharing.
• Experience with other reporting tools like Tableau / Cognos is desirable.
• Excellent communication skills with the ability to convey technical concepts to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
• Strong problem-solving skills to troubleshoot issues and optimize BI solutions.
• Insurance experience, especially Life Insurance or financial services would be highly regarded.
