The IT Investment Solutions Group at HOOPP (Healthcare of Ontario Pension Plan) is looking for an experienced individual to fill a permanent, full-time IT Senior Business Analyst role in our Investment Trading Portfolio.
The Trading Portfolio is responsible for the inception, design, analysis, implementation, and support of all Investment Trading applications used by the Investment Management team at HOOPP which manages over $60 billion daily.

What you will do:

  • Learn the unique methods our teams solve business problems to reduce operational inefficiencies and risk.
  • Learn how to build custom software that enables the growth of our business in ways no other pension plan can compete.
  • Analyze market software to determine if a vendor solution will meet our business needs while allowing the team to build more value-add software.
  • Partner with our business teams in the front office, back office, and risk division to understand their needs and document their problems for the team to refine and create robust solutions.
  • Provide timely support for our business teams when anomalies occur, or questions need to be answered through investigation of technical problems.
  • Co-create designs and processes that will be implemented by developers and tested by the team to ensure that the quality is fit for the operations of a critical business.
  • Collaborate with a team that embodies the agile mindset, involving considerable amounts of collaboration, learning and flexibility to achieve high performing results.
  • Support the team in developing and realizing the Product vision (develop roadmaps, manage scope, minimum viable products, prioritize backlog, create stories to incorporate user and technical feedback etc.)
  • Document requirements using storyboards and visual diagrams which can serve as blueprints for application designs. Update storyboards as requirements change or are refined.
  • Manage client expectations by maintaining healthy open communications between business and technical stakeholders and keeping relevant parties informed of progress.

What you will bring:

  • Degree in Finance, Business, Engineering, Computer Science, or equivalent.
  • Understanding of front-, middle- and back-office processes within Capital Markets such as:
  • Portfolio Management
  • Equity, FX, and Fixed Income Trading
  • Collateral Trading and Management
  • Trade and Position data
  • Trade Confirmation and Settlement
  • Excellent written and verbal communications skills with users, developers, and other stakeholders.
  • Good facilitator and interviewer (able to pull out deeper business needs & usage patterns).
  • Understands the why (curious, asks probing questions, digs deep, open minded).
  • Ability to create clarity and get everyone on the same page.
  • Visual in nature including comfortable whiteboarding complex data models and data flows.
  • Experience working with IT analysts and developers to produce solutions.
  • Experience integrating with vendor and external systems.
  • Possess a Quality Assurance mindset and capable of testing software to find issues and confirm functionality.

Nice to haves:

  • Understanding of IT principles such as databases, functions, UI (User Interfaces), business rules, and software systems.
  • Investment accounting (Book of Record).
  • Knowledge of basic Investment Risk fundamentals.
  • Knowledge of third-party systems: Simcorp Dimension (SCD), HANA, Snowflake.
  • Requirements gathering and documentation (clear, concise).
