SENIOR BUSINESS ANALYST

We are seeking an experienced and detail-oriented business/systems analyst with Justice/Policing experience. This role involves collaborating with clients and technical teams to understand business requirements, writing users stories to reflect requirements, providing demonstrations, testing solutions, and ensuring the successful implementation of technology solutions tailored to the legal/justice field.
Previous policing/legal/justice experience as a Business/Systems Analyst, Project Officer, or similar is a mandatory requirement.

Responsibilities:

  • Facilitate requirement gathering meetings and workshops with clients (i.e., eliciting what the client wants from the product).
  • Provide professional demonstrations and descriptions of the product’s functionality to the client
  • Analyse and explain solution options and recommend the solution(s) to address client needs
  • Review documented requirements, processes, etc., to ensure requirements are clear and comprehensible.
  • Assess alignment between documented requirements and product capabilities and work with the client to achieve alignment
  • Create and maintain requirement gathering documents (Jira Tickets, Word Docs, Excel Sheets, etc.) and other project documents
  • Translate and document client requirements into “Build Tickets” (instructions) to guide the technical team on what to build, as required
  • Collaborate with the technical team to ensure what is built aligns with the documented requirements
  • Help users resolve non-technical issues with the product (i.e., ‘how do I do X or Y?)
  • Support Testing processes (both IT & business testing) (i.e., testing what is built matches what was agreed to be built)
  • Deliver project activities with business stakeholders, as required (i.e., meetings, calls, etc.)
  • Produce organised and informative system documentation, including details of application configuration and installation (i.e., training guides, explainers, etc.)

Requirements:

  • A minimum of 5 years of Business/Systems Analyst experience in the legal/justice systems field. Candidates with Courts experience will be highly regarded.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, for writing detailed business requirements and presenting solutions to other team members and clients
  • Self-starter accustomed to a fast-paced environment
  • Ability to deliver highly detailed analysis and documentation (as required)
  • Willingness to travel to Melbourne 5-10 times a year (for 1-2 days)
  • Ability to communicate customer requirements effectively with product management and development teams, including have difficult conversations.

Preferred Qualifications/experience:

  • A university degree (Bachelors, Masters or Equivalent) in Law, Legal Studies, Policing, or a related field. Or, an alternative degree combined with at least 2-3 years of relevant experience in the legal/justice sector (i.e., Policing, Courts, Community Corrections), business analysis or technology.
  • Business Analyst training and/or experience
  • Experience with Justice agencies (e.g., prosecution, community corrections, etc.) but particularly courts (Magistrates, Supreme)
  • Legal practice experience in defence and/or prosecution (desirable)
  • Experience in testing packaged software deployed into large enterprises or government departments.
  • Experience with software implementations either with a systems integrator or consulting organisation
  • Experience with court solutions, prosecutor solutions and policing solutions
