Description:
Job Summary:
Ice Miller is seeking a Senior Business Development Manager to join the Business Development & Marketing Department. In this role, the successful candidate will be responsible for the development and execution of comprehensive marketing and business development strategies for the assigned practice group(s), including sub-practices. The ideal candidate will be forward-thinking, resourceful, and demonstrate extensive knowledge of legal marketing best practices to serve as a trusted resource and advisor to lawyers and colleagues.
New York salary in the range of $140,000 to $190,000 dependent on experience level.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
- Bachelor’s degree in Marketing, Business, or related field.
- 8+ years related experience required; or equivalent combination of education and experience (3-5 years working with Litigation practices)
- Prior experience working in a large legal or professional services firm is required
- Expert knowledge of and ability to apply legal marketing and business development best practices and related tools to advance practice group and/or attorney goals
- Must demonstrate critical thinking skills, including the ability to gather, analyze, and apply research and data to make recommendations consistent with business goals
- Excellent verbal, written, and presentation skills and the ability to synthesize and clearly communicate ideas to varying audiences
- Ability to establish and maintain the trust and confidence of key stakeholders and act as a strategic advisor
- Exceptional organizational and time management skills with the ability to manage and implement multiple initiatives simultaneously in a deadline-driven environment, including the ability to prioritize, track progress of tasks, and delegate to others
- Strong diplomatic skills with the ability to work effectively across all levels of the firm
- Displays high attention to detail in work product
- Advanced user of the MS Office suite, including Word, Power Point and Excel, as well as Adobe Acrobat; proficient using graphics tools within these applications
- Flexibility and willingness to respond to issues during and outside of core business hours
Responsibilities:
- Collaborate with lawyers to design and implement strategic business development initiatives to grow revenue through attraction, retention, and expansion of client relationships
- Develop, implement, and manage systems and processes to gather, track, measure, report on, and strategize around results of business development initiatives; provide advice and guidance to lawyers regarding the effectiveness of business development initiatives and efforts
- Build and leverage relationships with practice groups leaders and lawyers across the firm to assist with cross-selling initiatives that achieve business development goals
- Strategize with firm lawyers to create innovative, precise, and strategic pitch materials
- Develop, draft, organize, and maintain practice group marketing collateral and experience content, including practice group descriptions, brochures, matter lists, and website content
- Train and coach individual lawyers and/or practice groups on business development and marketing skills, including pursuing client leads, pitching new business, client retention, and content marketing.
- Work with lawyers within assigned practice area(s) to execute the goals outlined in the practice group’s business plan and track initiatives and outcomes
- Analyze market intelligence to provide proactive strategic guidance and/or recommendations to lawyers
- Work with the firm’s proposals team to manage RFP responses for the practice
- Manage and draft submissions and nominations to industry directories
- Attend and participate in practice group meetings
