WAGE: $100,000 - $130,000 per year

DO YOU HAVE WHAT IT TAKES? (REQUIREMENTS)

  • Post-secondary degree or diploma in construction/engineering or an equivalent field.
  • 5-10 years of senior estimating experience.
  • Experience leading a team through the bid process for various civil projects.
  • Extensive knowledge of key principles involved in bid preparation, including quantity take off procedures, sub-trade procurement, pricing and bid closing procedures.
  • Able to read and interpret building specifications, blueprints, and built drawings.
  • Mathematical and analytical skills necessary for strategic development of construction estimates and interpretations of job cost reports.
  • Able to use cost-estimating software to prepare cost quotes and bids.
  • High level of attention to detail and commitment to procedural integrity.
  • Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite

Responsibilities:

  • Takes the lead in the development of conceptual estimates and conventional bid submissions with or without complete drawings and specifications.
  • Provide mentorship and training to Junior Estimators and review/guide their daily efforts.
  • Prepare, and /or coordinate the preparation of full-cost estimates on conceptual, design-build or general work tender.
  • Prepare materials, labour and equipment cost estimations necessary to successfully carry out civil construction projects according to proposals, plans, estimates and specifications.
  • Prepare and maintain a list of suppliers, contractors, and subcontractors.
  • Provide advice on proposal procedures.
  • Analyze proposals, recommend /reject proposals and negotiate contracts.
  • Evaluate and recommend allowances for indirect costs, design unknowns, escalation, and contingency.
  • Conduct review meetings with clients.
  • Participate and coordinate company risk and opportunity evaluation with clients.
  • Review proposal specifications and drawings to determine scope of work and required contents of estimates.
  • Maintain files of working documents as backup for estimate figures, including current (accurate) information on process from supplier through direct contact, sales brochures, price list, etc.
  • Support the estimating team as required, which may include preparing estimates for other disciplines.
  • Review design options and recommend best solutions based on cost, engineering quality, or availability of materials.
  • Effectively determine the bid strategies required for Paradox/Stratum to be successful.
  • Review all final estimate packages to ensure accuracy and completeness, prior to formal quotation.
  • Organizes bid closing assignments to meet submission deadlines on closing day.
