JOB DESCRIPTION

Responsible for managing and administering Workers Compensation claims across the Viva Energy Group in accordance with the relevant legal requirements that apply in each jurisdiction and self-insurance framework in Victoria.
The Senior Claims Specialist provides advice to line managers and team members regarding the claims management process and the legal obligations of the parties. This role is responsible for the end-to-end claims process including claims receipt, determination of liability, claims lodgment, communication with all parties and ongoing claims management including supporting return to work management and rehabilitation, payroll, investigations, medical assessments, reporting, claims reviews, accounts authorization and payment.
The job holder will also participate in audits and internal quality assurance reviews.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Experience in managing a claims portfolio with expertise in managing an operating model, ideally in both self-insurance and schemes, and setting the standard for managing claims through a person centered approach.
  • Demonstrated experience and understanding of the WorkSafe Victorian claims management model and the Workers Compensation Acts in other jurisdictions.
  • Strong working knowledge of the Accident Compensation Act, the Workplace Injury Rehabilitation and Compensation Act and associated regulations and legislation in other jurisdictions.
  • Prior experience in applying injury management and workers compensation best practice to complex workplace injuries and claims.
  • Experience in managing conciliation matters.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage third party supplier service level agreements.
  • Demonstrated ability to work inclusively with all stakeholders.

Responsibilities:

Management of Workers Compensation claims

  • Responsible for the end-to-end claims process including claims receipt, determination of liability, claims lodgment, communication with all parties and ongoing claims management including supporting return to work management and rehabilitation, payroll, investigations, medical assessments, reporting, claims reviews, accounts authorization and payment.
  • Identify and mitigate emerging external and internal risks

Internal stakeholder management

  • Responsible for ensuring that information pertaining to the rights of team members and the claims process are readily available in the workplace.
  • Prepare regular periodic reports providing insights to the Workers Compensation Manager.
  • Actively participate in case conferencing with Health, People and Culture and line managers in relation to personal health matters where a return to work plan is being discussed.
  • Ensure early engagement with Health to ensure strategies are being considered to optimize the outcomes of return to work plans.

External stakeholder management

  • Responsible for the pro-active engagement and management of third party service providers including rehabilitation providers and investigators.
  • Responsible for claims management relationship with WorkSafe and insurers including regular case reviews and performance reporting.

Quality Assurance

  • Responsible for the preparation of material for audits and the active participation in the auditing of claims management processes.
  • Responsible for post audit actions relating to findings and non-conformances.
  • Actively participate in the Viva Energy quality assurance review processes including meetings, reporting and action planning.

Continuous Improvement

  • Actively participate in industry events relating to workers compensation innovations, best practice and regulatory changes.
  • Regularly assess the area of responsibility for improvement opportunities and take the initiative to make and embed performance improvements.
