Description:
About us
The Magistrates’ Court of Victoria (MCV) is a jurisdiction within the Court Services Victoria statutory authority and has a long history of providing justice for the people of Victoria, in metropolitan and regional courts across the state. MCV is also the lead jurisdiction, within the Bendigo Law Courts (BLC) facility.
To meet the needs of a growing and increasingly diverse community, an unprecedented transformation program is underway to improve the accessibility, quality, and efficiency of MCV’s services. Priorities include improving family safety (as part of the whole-of-Government family violence reform program); implementing new approaches to service delivery; providing better, safer facilities; and enabling the workforce of the future through technology innovation.
About the role
This is a part-time role, 19 hours per week, with a 4-day per week work pattern. This role also works in tandem with a part-time counterpart, also working 19 hours per week, to service the high demand, peak periods of court-user arrival patterns each day, across the 5 days of the working week.
Duties include answering public enquiries as well as directing and referring, assisting, or escorting people to the array of support services located within the BLC. You will be the welcoming presence on entry and exit, of our state-of-the-art facility every day, and at the centre of our BLC user experience.
You will work alongside our registry staff, facilities management, and security team, as well as judiciary, to ensure that the BLC experience is seamless and welcoming. You will also perform a range of associated administrative functions across one or more of the court’s jurisdictions, via a range of service channels.
About you
You have a strong and proud history of service provision working with diverse groups of people. You are a welcoming presence; an outstanding collaborator and you are genuinely interested in assisting people navigate their way through the court and tribunal system.
You are comfortable working in a small team of two or alone, when the need arises. You like to be busy, and you are known for your resilience. You don’t need a legal background although you will work hard to understand the legal environment and the complexities our users face when attending court.
You’re a morning person, working with a high volume of court-users from the time we open our doors until your working day is complete somewhere around lunch time. This role was specifically created for BLC and you will make it your own and give us feedback and insights along the way.
