Description:

Bloomfield Hospital is inviting applications for the position of a Senior Clinical/Counselling Psychologist for a permanent full-time role. This position offers the opportunity to provide psychological services both within the context of psychiatry of later life, general adult psychiatry, and mental health rehabilitation.

4. Educational and Development

  • Have a professional development plan and review it regularly with the Clinical Director.
  • Ensure that the clinical areas in the centre where students may be assigned for clinical placements in the future are developed to provide the optimum learning\teaching environments and are conducive to the learning requirements of the students as specified by the University.
  • Initiate, facilitate and take-part in relevant research and promote research awareness within the clinical service of the centre.
  • Keep up-to-date with clinical literature, recent clinical research and new developments in clinical practice, management and education.
  • Participate in training programmes and attend relevant seminars and conferences relating to psychology or as required by the Clinical Director / professional body

Responsibilities:

  1. Professional and Clinical
  • Carry out Psychological assessments as necessary, with patients/residents attending the inpatient/day and outpatient services.
  • Develop and to provide individual, family and group therapeutic interventions/strategies to patients/residents as required.
  • Carry a caseload and perform the duties required of a Senior Clinical/Counselling Psychologist as a member of a multi-disciplinary team.
  • Report to the Clinical Director and to liaise with the relevant Consultant/Psychiatrist on professional and administrative issues regarding his or her work as a member of the clinical teams.
  • Work with and supervise, when appropriate, Student/Trainee/Assistant Psychologists.
  • Carry out research, especially in the area of service evaluation, regarding patients/residents attending the service.
  • Identify psychology needs in respect of the presenting patient population and to develop proposals for the Clinical Director as to how these needs could be met.
  • Manage patient care to ensure the highest professional standards using an evidence-based, care planning approach.
  • Provide a high level of professional and clinical leadership.
  • Work as part of a multi-disciplinary team, and to participate in teams/meetings/committees as appropriate, communicating and working in co-operation with other team members.
  • Plan discharge or transfer of the patient/resident between services as appropriate.
  • Maintain records in accordance with service and professional standards. Be competent and up-to-date with regard to Clinical Governance and be familiar with conducting audits and analysing data
  • Ensure that the Centre is at all times in compliance with statutory regulations, guidelines.
  • Ensure that the delivery of treatment and care is maintained at the highest evidence-based practice standard.
  • Develop and promote good interdisciplinary relationships with the objective of enhancing and maintaining quality patient care.
  • Assist in the implementation of practice developments throughout the centre and monitor their effectiveness.
  • Familiar with, be competent in and support the advancement and implementation of ICT developments within the centre.
  • Maintain strict confidentiality with regard to all matters concerning patients/residents, staff and business of the Centre.
  1. Management and Leadership
  • To be familiar and competent to carry out administrative duties as assigned.
  • To be competent to advise on all aspects of legislation pertaining to psychological practice and education.
  • Participate in the recruitment and selection of personnel if required.
  • Investigate, document and take appropriate action regarding complaints in accordance with centre policy if required.
  • Familiar with how to manage personnel issues.
  • Demonstrate leadership skills in supporting and advising staff if required.
  • Assist with the formulation of policies, protocols, guidelines and procedures which will ensure that the highest standard of patient-focused care is provided within available resources.
  • Participate in the work of committees and task groups relating to both educational and clinical aspects of the service as required.
  • Ensure that full and comprehensive incident reporting is carried out in a timely fashion and that recommendations are fully implemented.
  1. Health and Safety
  • Observe, report and take appropriate action on any matter which may be detrimental to staff and/or service user care or well-being/may be inhibiting the efficient provision of care.
  • Assist in observing and ensuring implementation and adherence to established policies and procedures e.g. health and safety, infection control, storage and use of controlled drugs etc.
  • Ensure completion of incident/near miss forms/clinical risk reporting.
  • Adhere to department policies in relation to the care and safety of any equipment supplied for the fulfilment of duty.
