Senior Clinical / Counselling Psychologist

We are inviting applications from experienced Clinical or Counselling Psychologists for an exciting senior psychologist position in our well-established and respected HIV and Sexual Health services. We are particularly interested to receive applications from psychologists with experience in or relevant to the specialism of HIV, sexual health and psychosexual difficulties, as well as leadership and supervisory experience.
The role offers a broad range of opportunities including leadership, the provision of individual and group therapy, supervision and consultation, teaching, and service development. The role would suit psychologists who are passionate about supporting people who have experienced marginalisation. It provides opportunities to work critically and systemically with themes including the impact of social stigma and intersectional identities.
The successful candidate/s will be joining a team of experienced psychologists, passionate about delivering high quality and innovative HIV and sexual health services. The team was shortlisted for Team of the Year at CNWL’s Therapies Awards in 2023.
The successful candidate/s will be supported in their professional development, including access to CPD . The post holders will work under clinical and management supervision of the Lead Psychologist for HIV and Sexual Health services and will be provided with appropriate training and support.
To lead on the operational running of HIV and sexual health Psychology and its virtual services and digital innovations.
To provide a sexual health psychology service to clients of the Mortimer Market Centre and Archway Centre, providing highly specialist psychological and psychosexual assessment and treatment.
To supervise qualified and trainee psychologists as required, and offering advice, consultation and supervision on clients’ psychological care to non-psychologist colleagues and to other, non-professional carers.
To work autonomously within professional guidelines and within the overall framework of the service’s policies and procedures.
To utilise research skills for audit, policy and service development and research within the area served by the service.

Leadership
Operational & digital innovations Lead role : To provide leadership on the operational management of the Psychology service, including coordination of assessment clinics, monitoring and auditing of assessment and treatment waiting lists, representing Psychology at the service-wide operational meeting, and contribute to the development, evaluation and monitoring of the Psychology team’s operational policies and procedures. To provide leadership on digital and virtual services, including the Psychology team’s online assessment and therapy services.
To co-lead on a new digital service development project.
Clinical
To provide specialist psychological and psychosexual assessments of referred clients, using interview, formal psychometric and other assessment methods as appropriate.
To formulate and devise psychological and psychosexual treatment and management plans for referred clients and to provide psychological treatment, using a range of specialist psychological interventions appropriate to the service.
To provide specialist psychological advice, guidance, consultation and supervision to colleagues and other professionals, to assist in the formulation, diagnosis and treatment of clients.
To provide specialist consultation and guidance to colleagues and other professionals on psychological/psychosexual intervention.
To provide reports and communicate in a skilled and sensitive manner information concerning the assessment, formulation and treatment plans of clients.
To liaise with other health and social care staff, from a range of agencies, in the care provided to clients.
Teaching, training, and supervision
To provide clinical supervision for qualified and trainee psychologists as required.
To provide clinical placements for trainee clinical psychologists, as required, ensuring the trainees acquire the necessary skills, competencies and experience to contribute effectively to health care, and to contribute to the assessment and evaluation of such competencies. To provide professional and clinical supervision of trainee psychologists and psychosexual therapy trainees as required.
To continue to develop skills in the area of professional post-graduate teaching, training and clinical supervision .
To provide advice, consultation, training and supervision to other health and social care staff working with the client group (e.g. nurses, doctors, psychologists) and within the trust, as appropriate.
To provide advice, supervision and training to other psychologists within the service, as appropriate.
Management, Recruitment, Policy and Service Development
To contribute to the development, evaluation and monitoring of the team’s operational policies and services, through the deployment of professional skills in research, service evaluation and audit.
To advise both service and professional management on those aspects of the service where psychological and/or organisational matters need to be addressed.
To manage the workloads of trainee psychologists, within the framework of the service’s policies and procedures.
To be involved, as appropriate, in the shortlisting and interviewing of assistant psychologists and trainee psychologists.
Research and service evaluation
To use theory, evidence-based literature and research to support and critique evidence-based practice in individual work and work with other team members.
To undertake appropriate research and provide research advice to other staff undertaking research.
To undertake project management, including complex audit and service evaluation, with colleagues within the service to help develop and evaluate service provision.
General
To ensure the development and maintenance of the highest personal standards of practice, through active participation in internal and external CPD training and development programmes, in consultation with the post holder’s professional and service manager(s).
To contribute to the development and articulation of best practice in psychology within the service area, by exercising the skills of a reflexive and reflective scientist practitioner, taking part in regular professional supervision and appraisal and maintaining an active engagement with current developments in the field of clinical psychology and related disciplines.
To maintain the highest standards of clinical record keeping including electronic data entry and recording, report writing and the responsible exercise of professional self-governance in accordance with professional codes of practice of the British Psychological Society and Trust policies and procedures.
To maintain up to date knowledge of legislation, national and local policies and issues of relevance to the service and client group.
To undertake such other duties and responsibilities, appropriate to the grade of the post, as may be agreed with the Lead Psychologist for HIV and Sexual Health
