Description:

This is a local Trust appointment for 6 months. Whether this counted towards training for the successful applicant would depend upon their suitability and approval from the Regional Advisor. Applicants who would like this appointment to count towards training should indicate this.
The post holder will be fully involved with the provision of anaesthetic services in the operating theatres and Intensive Care unit and resuscitation. He/she will provide a pre and post-operative service for patients. With local consultant supervision, the post holder will be expected to deliver solo lists to support reduction in the reliance on insourcing. They will contribute to either ICU, maternity or acute on call cover. Work patterns follow a compliant full shift system. There are at least 3 resident CT1 / CT2 / ST1-4 and 1 ST 5-7 Anaesthetic staff in the hospital at all times.
There is an out of hours non-resident consultant intensivist and a non-resident consultant anaesthetist on call.
There are monthly Clinical Governance meetings which may be departmental or hospital based. Junior staff are expected to become involved in audit projects and be present at these meetings.
The college tutors are Dr O Jundi and Dr F Hayat as well as the ICM Tutor, Dr James Morgan.
Regular career appraisal and counselling is given during the appointment, via allocated appraisers.

We have two main hospital sites: Bradford Royal Infirmary and St Luke’s Hospital. Maternity Services are centralised at the maternity unit on the Bradford Royal Infirmary site which includes our neonatal unit. The main theatres and emergency admissions are located at Bradford Royal Infirmary while St Luke’s Hospital provides a large outpatient facility and wards for therapy and rehabilitation. In 2021/22 our Trust services delivered 5,525 babies, performed 13,102 operations in theatre and handled 423,154 outpatient appointments. We had 108,503 attendances at our Emergency Department.
