Description:

A twelve-month post as a Clinical Fellow in Anaesthesia is available at Oxford University Hospitals. This post is suitable for UK anaesthetic trainees within the last 2 years of training or immediately after completion of training. We also welcome applications from qualified anaesthetists from other countries who have completed at least 5 years of anaesthetic training and are eligible for registration with the GMC.
On starting the post, the post-holder will work under the direct supervision of senior staff until they have successfully completed appropriate induction to the site of work. Every three months during the post (or more frequently if required) training will be reviewed by the nominated Clinical Supervisor. The post-holder is expected to keep accurate contemporaneous records of clinical activities or events, including pre-operative assessment, pre- and postoperative care, pain relief, and critical incidents, using the trust approved documentation. The post-holder is expected to keep a record of their training including a logbook of cases and a record of other activity.
The Departmental Administrator produces a weekly rota. It is expected that the successful candidate will perform duties appropriate to the grade and to his/her level of experience. There will be times where the schedule has to be changed after the rota has been published.
Oxford University Hospitals (OUH) is a world-renowned centre of clinical excellence and one of the largest NHS teaching trusts in the UK. The Trust is made up of the John Radcliffe Hospital (which includes the Women’s Centre, the Children’s Hospital, West Wing, Heart Centre and Eye Hospital), the Churchill Hospital and the Nuffield Orthopaedic Centre in Oxford, and the Horton Hospital in Banbury. The Nuffield Department of Anaesthesia consists of over 120 Consultant Anaesthetists and 60 trainees.
Teaching/Research

Clinical Governance
The post-holder will participate in all clinical governance activities, including clinical audit, clinical effectiveness, risk management, quality improvement activities as required by the Trust, and external accrediting bodies.
Personal and professional development
The post-holder will be required to keep himself/herself fully up to date with their relevant area of practice and to be able to demonstrate this to the satisfaction of the Trust. Professional or study leave will be granted at the discretion of the Trust, in line with the prevailing Terms and Conditions of Service, to support appropriate study, postgraduate training activities, relevant CME courses and other appropriate personal development needs.
Management
The post-holder will be required to work within the Trust’s management policies and procedures, both statutory and internal, accepting that the resources available to the Trust are finite and that all changes in clinical practice or workload, or developments requiring additional resources must have prior agreement with the Trust. He/she will undertake the administrative duties associated with the care of his/her patients and the running of his/her clinical service under the direction of the lead clinician and/or directorate chair.

Responsibilities for Health & Safety
The post-holder is responsible for ensuring that all duties and responsibilities of this post are carried out in compliance with the Health & Safety at Work Act 1974, Statutory Regulations and Trust Policies and Procedures. This will be supported by the provision of training and specialist advice where required.
Infection Control
Infection Control is everyone’s responsibility. All staff, both clinical and nonclinical, are required to adhere to the Trusts’ Infection Prevention and Control Policies and make every effort to maintain high standards of infection control at all times thereby reducing the burden of Healthcare Associated Infections.
