Description:
This post is for a Gynae-oncology Research Fellow at ST4(+) level at Lancashire Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust. The post also includes a clinical commitment to general obstetrics and gynaecology.
This post is fixed term with an initial contract for 12 months but once registered for the MD can be extended. The post will be split 50:50% between clinical duties and research activity. This is a full-time post, however applications from candidates seeking a part time post will be considered.
Candidates should be highly motivated to undertake a postgraduate degree. The successful candidate would be expected to register for an MD research degree at Lancaster University. The theme of the research programme will be peri-operative optimisation of gynaecological cancer patients. There is existing ethical approval for research study accessing historic CPEX data linking to laboratory and clinical data held within the existing data warehouse. In addition, there are stored serum/plasma samples in the biobank from patients who had CPEX and surgery (50 ovarian, 52 uterine/cervix and 17 controls).
This is also a clinical post and candidates should be at a level expected of an ST4+ UK trainee. Candidates who are successful at interview will be expected to apply for Out of Program Research (OOPR) if they are currently in a training post.
The post is ideally suited towards candidates considering future subspecialty training in gynaecology, whilst maintaining clinical skills
The Clinical Research Fellow will work on the Tier 2 on-call rota (1 in 9), and as such will take on the responsibilities associated with this role, which is equivalent to that of a ST3+ trainee in the UK.
The weekly timetable will vary from week to week. The clinical component composing 50% may include sessions in gynae oncology outpatients, gynae oncology theatres and the emergency gynaecology assessment unit. Research days are usually fixed and comprise 50% of the post.
