Description:

This post will place the successful candidate at the heart of a dynamic medical simulation team. Established in 2005, MediSim, the Royal Surrey County Hospital simulation service, is recognised by HEKSS as a centre of excellence for simulation and has been delivering medical student and foundation year 1 & 2 programmes ever since. High quality simulation delivery is well established with MediSim being recognised by HEKSS School of Anaesthesia as a regional centre for simulation training for all Surrey anaesthetic trainees. We deliver nationally accredited courses such as MEPA, and are one of the founding centres of the HEKSS accredited TeachSIM faculty training programme. We have active in-situ ICM simulation programmes, and the ICS endorsed STricT course (critical care transfer training) is delivered regularly. MediSim delivers simulation over 3 main sites including the simulation suite, a mobile service in clinical areas and at the University. With access to a Classic SimMan, SimMan 3G, SimBaby, part task trainers, and SMOTS, we are entering into an exciting time of expansion within specialty, mobile and multidisciplinary simulation across the Trust.
The post holder will develop theoretical and practical experience in a variety of educational methods in the healthcare setting. This will include full-scale immersion scenarios using human patient simulators for single and interprofessional disciplines. The post holder will work closely with the Director of Medical Education, the Trust Lead for Simulation, the Associated Trust Lead for Simulation, the Chief Simulation Technician, Simulation Specialty Leads and a dedicated faculty and will be participating fully in the development, organization and delivery of training programmes aimed at medical student, foundation programme doctors, and other specialty trainees and healthcare workers. The post holder would also be expected to contribute to the running of local faculty development courses. Attendance and input to business unit meetings is expected to gain experience of the management of such a service. The post holder will be encouraged to undertake research projects primarily in educational methods and simulation applied to medicine, and will be working with and supported by HEKSS in the arena of medical simulation. Attendance at local and national meetings on various aspects of medical education and patient safety initiatives is expected and obtaining a teaching qualification would be highly encouraged.
