Description:
We currently have a SCF post in Trauma and Emergency General Surgery. The Trauma Centre at King’s has been growing steadily and these posts have been designed to expand and enhance the service.
The Trauma Fellow posts are designed to underpin the clinical activities of the Major Trauma / Emergency General Surgery team on the King’s Denmark Hill Campus. This is an exciting time; King’s went live as a Major Trauma Centre from April 2010 and this post will help develop improved ways of delivering care for trauma patients in SE L
The post holder’s principal responsibilities will be the day to day management of the Major Trauma / Emergency surgical in-patients:
To be part of the Trauma SpR rota and share in the immediate (
To be integral part of the resuscitation team
To assist the Consultant (General) Trauma Surgeon or any other subspecialty surgeon in the process of decision making, transfer to theatres, and phase I emergency surgery
To attend the daily general surgical hand-over meeting in order to be informed of any overnight problems with Major trauma/ Emergency Surgery patients; to participate in daily ITU/HDU and trauma ward rounds as key surgical communicator; and to participate in the daily morning trauma meeting and to put into action any surgical plans resulting hereof
To provide surgical continuity of care for all major trauma patients including performance/assistance in delayed emergency procedures and overseeing patients in the Trauma ward.

To assist the Consultant (General) Trauma Surgeon or any other sub speciality surgeon in the process of decision making, transfer to theatres, and phase I emergency surgery
To attend the daily general surgical hand-over meeting from 7:30 to 8:00 am in order to be informed of any overnight problems with Major trauma/ Emergency Surgery patients
To participate in daily ITU/HDU and trauma ward rounds as key surgical communicator
To participate in the daily morning trauma meeting and to put into action any surgical plans resulting hereof
To provide surgical continuity of care for all major trauma patients including performance/assistance in delayed emergency procedures
To be responsible for the day to day management of patients on the Trauma ward, maintains regular contact with the on call General Surgery consultant (and other speciality consultants where required), liaises closely with them about the management plan for each patient.
To prepare all relevant surgical data for comprehensive monthly audit
To rotate through King’s specialty services to obtain specific trauma-related subspecialty training
To support service provision in relation to OPD minor operations as require
