We are pleased to advertise for a Senior Clinical Fellow Post in Neonatology (Registrar equivalent) offering to the successful candidate a one year (renewable/extendable) contract, commencing on 02 Sept 2024.
This is a replacement post of a colleague who will rotate to General Paediatrics.
The successful candidate will join a medical team of 7 Neonatal Consultants,
8 Neonatal Registrars / Senior Clinical Fellows (incl. of this post), 12 Neonatal Senior House Officers
/ Junior Clinical fellows, and an extensive and friendly neonatal nursing and administration team.
Our Units (intensive/high dependency care, special care 1&2)
provide clinical service and cover to our local Labour Ward and Postnatal Wards (approx. 7200 deliveries annually).Clinical and professional support will be provided for the competent adaptation of the role
and the further personal development of the middle grade doctor.

Senior Clinical Fellow in Neonates.
The post holder will participate in a 1:8 registrar rota in Neonatology for 12 months initially, with an option to extend for further duration. Duties will be in the Neonatal Units (Intensive and High Dependency Unit, Special Care 1 Unit, Special Care 2 Unit), Labour Ward, Postnatal Wards, and Birth Centre. The new rota will involve daytime and night duties, compliant with the Deanery Directives. Full induction to operations, duties, responsibilities, and expectations will be provided.

All new staff appointed to posts at the Trust are subject to a probationary period. This will give the new staff member an opportunity to become familiar with the culture and working environment of the Trust.

  • Together with the other medical colleagues to provide a service for Children’s Directorate. This includes all aspects of treatment and relevant management duties for the proper functioning of the Clinical Group.
  • Shared responsibility with the other colleagues for providing 24 hours, 7 days a week cover for the Neonatal Unit on a rota basis. Responsible also for covering colleagues’ periods of annual leave and short-term sickness
  • Participation in Multi-disciplinary Meetings.
  • Contribution to audit and clinical governance programmes.
  • Responsible for outpatient clinic commitments in peripheral hospitals as agreed with the Care Group management team.
  • Contribute to the audit programmes, Morbidity and Mortality, clinical governance programs and learning from Deaths.
  • Conduct all activities within the contracted level of service and operating plan for service(s).
  • Work in conjunction with clinical and other professional colleagues to ensure that the productivity of staff within the specialty is maintained and their job satisfaction is enhanced. This may include involvement in the appraisal process for peers and/or junior colleagues.
  • Be aware of, and comply with, all Trust infection prevention and control policies, to include hand hygiene, personal hygiene, environmental and food hygiene.
  • Prepare for and undertake the protective interventions that you are responsible for in a manner that is consistent with evidence-based practice and maintaining patient safety.
