Description:

Expected Medical Education activity: Lead in the development, planning, delivery and monitoring of teaching for relevant medical school undergraduate students, working with the Undergraduate Tutors, Nurse Lead and Medical Education Faculty. Act as a direct source of educational advice and expertise offering guidance to clinical and medical staff on all aspects of the medical student programme. Lead on teaching programme design and be pro-active in the development / review of teaching materials and ensuring submission to University is within timeframe. Collaborate with Education by Experience Educator, other service users and carers to develop workshops and teaching, embedding service user experience with competences in knowledge and skills required by the individual medical school.
Attend all and co-chair the respective Medical School Operational meetings with the Lead tutor or Nurse leads & lead on Action Planning. Attend Medical School related meetings on curriculum delivery/ planning & innovation and provide report/ update as required. Contribute to Governance related reports/ events i.e. UGB, SAR, Quality Visits and attendance at Quality Visits and Audit events.
Lead/contribute to the development of Simulation Projects & facilitation of Simulation teaching activities by the Medical Education Faculty and in collaboration with the Simulation Tutor. This currently includes Physical Health Emergencies in a Psychiatric Setting (RAMPPS) and other developed simulation teaching. Undertake and evaluate at least one innovative medical education project or piece of quality improvement work and to present at least one poster at a regional/ national conference every 3 years & support other QI projects developed by the clinical teaching fellows. Provide input into areas of clinical need to support the inclusion of students in that team.
This may include attending local service team meetings to disseminate and share information regarding the medical student programmes and offering assisted support to clinicians to ensure the delivery of a positive learning experience to medical students. Support the faculty with strategic direction in the delivery of undergraduate medical student and postgraduate foundation stage placements. Contribute to Medical Education Faculty Events including the Postgraduate Teaching programme, Grand Rounds, Promotion of teaching skills in PG trainees, Annual Med Ed Conference, Simulation Teaching etc. Monitor and formatively assess medical student performance in practice offering expert advice and feedback regarding their educational and professional development.
Support & develop junior clinical teaching fellows to include arranging and leading regular Peer groups. Provide assessment of PG trainees & teaching fellows within a teaching environment to provide expert advice and feedback with regards to educational and professional development as required. Support the development of additional placements, i.e. SSCs, SSIPs.
Provide pastoral support to the differing medical student groups as required. Medical Education Opportunities: Engage with the ADME for mentoring/ support/ PDP and Appraisal Purposes (see below). Have an opportunity to complete the Certificate of Medical Education or alternative Teaching Qualifications as discussed in their PDP. Attend medical education learning events/ conferences as identified in PDP
