Description:

THE COMPANY

Canterbury of New Zealand was established in 1904 by John Lane, Pringle Walker and Alfred Rudkin, three English immigrants turned proud Kiwis, who began producing woolen garments in the Canterbury Province of New Zealand. The three had such a love for New Zealand, they named the company after the place they lived - the proud region of Canterbury. So, what did they decide on for the logo? Three Kiwis, of course.
Whilst they are synonymous with rugby and sport in NZ, the legacy of their roots also stretches to the agricultural and trade sectors where it’s been seen as the iconic ‘badge of honour’ for farmers and tradies to wear on the farm or work site for 120 years. Today, they bring the same values to their extensive product offering that extends beyond the pitch, and their pride in the durability and comfort of their garments is stitched into every summer, winter and teamwear range.
Canterbury is wholly owned by Pentland Brands, a global family business bringing some of the most loved active and footwear brands to millions of people around the world. As well as Canterbury of New Zealand, they own Speedo, Berghaus, Endura, Mitre, ellesse, KangaROOS and Red or Dead. They are also the UK licensee for Kickers and we have a joint venture partnership for Lacoste footwear.
