Description:

Our Client, an Offshore Investement Consultancy have set up a foreign legal Advisory Unit. This role will be based in Mauritius or remote from South Africa. International Tax experience is a MUST Cross Border M&A experience is a MUST

OVERVIEW:

We are seeking a highly experienced and dynamic Senior Attorney/Advocate with a minimum of 10 years of post-admission experience to join our team in Mauritius. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in banking law, tax law, commercial law, mergers & acquisitions, and litigation. Additional expertise in intellectual property law is a significant bonus. The role requires a passion for Africa and the ability to travel within the continent.

QUALIFICATIONS:

1.Admitted Attorney/Advocate with a minimum of 7 years of post-admission experience.
2. Strong expertise in banking law, tax law, and commercial law, with a proven track record of success in these areas.
3.Experience in mergers & acquisitions and litigation is essential.
4. Additional expertise in intellectual property law is highly desirable.
5. Excellent legal drafting, negotiation, and advocacy skills.
6. Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.
7.Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
8.Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
9.Fluency in English is required, proficiency in French would be an advantage.
10.Passion for Africa and a willingness to travel within the continent.

Responsibilities:

1.Provide expert legal advice and strategic guidance on banking law, tax law, commercial law, mergers & acquisitions, and litigation matters.
2.Draft, review, and negotiate a wide range of legal documents including contracts, agreements, and legal opinions.
3.Represent clients in negotiations, mediations, arbitrations, and assist with court proceedings within local counsel.
4.Conduct legal research and analysis to stay abreast of developments in relevant areas of law and provide proactive advice to clients.
5.Collaborate with internal teams and external stakeholders to ensure legal compliance and mitigate risks.
6.Handle complex legal matters independently and efficiently, demonstrating strong problem-solving skills.
7.Advise on intellectual property matters as needed, leveraging any expertise in this area to add value to the team and clients.
8.Build and maintain strong client relationships, providing excellent client service and delivering innovative legal solutions.
9.Support business development efforts, including identifying new opportunities and contributing to the growth and success of the firm.
10.Travel within Africa as required to meet client needs and participate in business development activities.
11. Advise on International Tax matters and cross border deal making, leveraging any expertise in this area to add value to the team and clients.
