WHAT QUALIFICATIONS DO YOU BRING?

  • Completion of a University degree, or College Diploma in a related discipline (i.e. Human Resources), along with relevant experience, OR a combination of education, training, and deemed to be equivalent.
  • Previous experience in a unionized environment is a strong asset.
  • A Certified Human Resources Professional (CHRP) designation is also an asset.
  • In-depth knowledge of compensation principles, concepts, practices, and processes, including but not limited to job evaluation, pay levels/bands, salary schedules, salary/wage administration principles, pay equity, etc.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of principles and practices relating to organizational design, combined with a thorough awareness of the relationship of compensation administration to related human resources functions such as recruitment, training and employee relations
  • Comprehensive knowledge of compensation issues and legislation related to area responsibility
  • Experience in the development, implementation, and usage of an HRIS system such as SAP, Oracle, or similar
  • Well-developed analytical and problem-solving skills; sound knowledge of research and quantitative methods and techniques
  • Excellent project management skills
  • Strong communication, presentation and interpersonal skills; tact and sound judgement
  • Demonstrated ability to work cooperatively and collaboratively with others
  • Strong computing skills, including MS Word, PowerPoint, and Excel for statistical analysis and presentations.

Responsibilities:

  • Provides compensation subject matter expertise and supports leadership in developing and managing compensation initiatives, programs, and policies (such as general increases, retention, etc.)
  • Leads and/or engages in special/strategic compensation projects, working closely with multiple stakeholders to ensure project objectives and business requirements are met
  • Champions the use of data and metrics, conducts qualitative and quantitative analysis, and prepares recommendations, reports, and presentations to impact business decisions
  • Leads a variety of compensation research responsibilities, stays abreast of current trends in the marketplace, identifies areas of opportunity to integrate best practices, and makes recommendations to elevate compensation services at the TTC
  • Solves ad-hoc and complex compensation issues inside and outside of policy, identifies and advises on risk and systemic impact, and makes recommendations to leadership on precedent setting and/or exceptional solutions
  • Works with managers and colleagues inside and outside of Talent Management to facilitate, advise and execute on special initiatives related to job design/redesign and organizational structure reviews
  • Consults on and supports critical client work as required, including but not limited to consultation on job descriptions, job evaluations, salary administration, special scenarios, and workforce change requests
  • Drives continuous improvement, identifies areas of opportunities, and recommends and implements process efficiencies towards the betterment of compensation practices, processes, reporting and records management
  • Leads and/or engages in ongoing developmental/maintenance support for HRIS and other related compensation systems and databases
  • Leads and/or engages in the development and maintenance of tracking and reporting compensation activities/data
  • Educates, communicates and partners with relevant parties and stakeholders addressing shared work and interdependencies for the greater good
  • Proactively translates new concepts and principles (e.g. inclusive job design) into compensation documentation, tools, methodologies and approaches
  • Works with Employee Relations staff and provides consultation and bargaining support on compensation matters, grievances, and arbitrations as needed
  • Responsible for treating passengers and/or employees with respect and dignity and ensuring the needs of passengers or employees with disabilities are accommodated and/or addressed (within their area of responsibility) in accordance with the Ontario Human Rights Code and Related Orders so that they can fully benefit from the TIC as a service-provider and an employer.
  • Participation in the TTC Customer Service Ambassador Program.
