We are recruiting for the latest member of our Compliance team. If you have experience supporting compliance with FCA Conduct regulations in a fast paced and agile environment and the ability to provide pragmatic and customer outcome focused solutions to the business, then this may be the job for you. We are especially keen to hear from candidates with experience of supporting compliance in respect of Financial Advice.
Who Are We?
Not just another building society. Not just another job.
We’re the fourth biggest building society in the UK and what makes us a bit different is that we’re a mutual organisation. We don’t have shareholders; we’re owned by our members.
Our colleagues say Skipton’s a great place to work, and you could be one of them, bringing with you new ideas on how we can keep customers at the heart of what we do.
Whatever your background, and whatever your goals, we’ll help you take the next step towards a better future.
You will be joining the Compliance team, which is part of the second line Group Risk Function. The team compromises 12 colleagues that focus on monitoring and customer outcome testing and 8 that focus on providing ongoing compliance ‘policy’ support, this role sitting in the latter camp. As a support function we work with stakeholders from across our homes and money businesses including in areas such as products, distribution, operations, and quality assurance. While each colleague in the Team generally has a specialism, all colleagues are given the opportunity to develop their knowledge of other areas of compliance including data protection. Colleagues are also encouraged to dedicate one day a month towards their personal development.
What’s In It For You?
Skipton values work/life balance and we are proud to support hybrid and flexible working, where possible. We have a newly refurbished head office which offers a vibrant and collaborative working space.

We have a range of other benefits available to you including;

  • Annual discretionary bonus scheme
  • 25 days standard annual leave + bank holidays + rising 1 day per year of service to a maximum of 30 days
  • Holiday trading scheme allowing the ability to buy and sell additional annual leave days
  • Matching employer pension contribution (up to 10% per annum)
  • Colleague mortgage (conditions apply)
  • Salary sacrifice scheme for hybrid & electric car
  • A commitment to training and development
  • Private medical insurance for all our colleagues
  • 3 paid volunteering days per annum
  • Diverse and inclusive colleague networks available for you to join including our Carers and Pride Alliance groups
  • We care about your health and wellbeing – we provide a range of benefits that support this including cycle to work initiative and discounted gym membership

What Will You Be Doing?

You will be assisting our Homes and Money businesses to effectively manage and mitigate retail conduct risk by providing independent second line support and challenge in respect of regulatory issues. Ways in which you will do this include:

  • helping to identify, summarise, and cascade regulatory developments, and assisting first line to implement regulatory change to achieve good customer outcomes;
  • supporting the timely and accurate submission of regulatory notifications and applications; and
  • supporting relevant change initiatives within the Homes and Money businesses and acting as a referral point for compliance queries.

What Do We Need From You?
You will have knowledge of and experience in at least one area of FCA Conduct of Business requirements, preferably in respect of Financial Advice. You must be able to help our Homes and Money businesses to identify and prioritise relevant conduct risks and advise and support first line colleagues to develop systems, controls and procedures that adhere to regulatory requirements. You will be comfortable working independently, be able to develop and maintain effective wording relationships, communicate effectively, and be able to influence and persuade others.

Responsibilities:

  • helping to identify, summarise, and cascade regulatory developments, and assisting first line to implement regulatory change to achieve good customer outcomes;
  • supporting the timely and accurate submission of regulatory notifications and applications; and
  • supporting relevant change initiatives within the Homes and Money businesses and acting as a referral point for compliance queries
