The company is seeking a dynamic Senior Legal Counsel to provide strategic legal advice and support across various commercial and operational matters. Reporting directly to the General Counsel, this role offers an exciting opportunity to contribute to the success of one of Australia’s leading infrastructure companies.

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE:

  • Current Practicing Certificate.
  • Minimum of 8-10 years of post-qualification experience as a legal practitioner, with a focus on construction law, commercial law, or infrastructure projects.
  • Experience working in or advising the construction, infrastructure, or engineering sectors.
  • Strong knowledge of construction contracts, procurement processes, and relevant legislation.
  • Excellent communication, negotiation, and analytical skills, with the ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment.

Responsibilities:

  • Provide expert legal advice and guidance on commercial, construction, and regulatory matters to senior management and project teams.
  • Draft, review, and negotiate complex contracts, ensuring compliance with company policies and legal requirements.
  • Manage legal risks associated with construction projects, including contract disputes, claims management, and regulatory compliance.
  • Collaborate with project teams to identify and address legal issues, offering practical solutions to facilitate successful project delivery.
  • Stay updated on changes in legislation and industry best practices, providing timely updates and guidance to internal stakeholders.
  • Conduct legal research and analysis to support decision-making processes and strategic initiatives.
  • Assist in developing and implementing legal strategies to support business objectives, including risk mitigation and dispute resolution.
  • Manage relationships with external legal counsel and other third-party advisors, ensuring cost-effective and efficient delivery of legal services.
  • Provide training and guidance to internal stakeholders on legal matters, promoting a culture of compliance and risk awareness.
  • Participate in contract negotiations and commercial discussions, representing the company’s interests and advocating for favourable outcomes.
  • Contribute to the development and maintenance of standard contract templates and legal precedents, driving efficiency within the legal function.
