Responsibilities:

ABOUT THE ROLE

Data Scientists should have a pragmatic approach to problem-solving and be capable of developing end-to-end solutions that clients can rely on in production. They should be capable of challenging their own work and finding a balance between perfection and practicality.
As a Senior Consultant, you will be expected to research different methodological approaches and deliver high-quality solutions with guidance. You will be expected to mentor junior colleagues and lead workstreams on larger projects.

WHAT YOU’LL DO

At the Data Collection stage of a project, the Senior Consultant will:

  • Perform data availability/quality assessment.
  • Own ETL processes.
  • Write SQL queries or scripts to query APIs.
  • Researches and acquires data from public sources.
  • Liaise with stakeholders to ingest unstructured data.
  • Choose appropriate storage schemas, in conjunction with engineers / database architects.
  • Identify issues with data—missing values, (near) duplicates, ambiguous name-entity resolution, non-standardised addresses, dates, etc.—and perform data cleaning.
  • Prepare replicable processing scripts/notebooks in project repository, and documentation of steps taken.

At the Proof of Concept stage of the project, the Senior Consultant will:

  • Perform exploratory data analysis, visualize and communicate key findings.
  • Identify possible model features and apply appropriate transformations or normalizations.
  • Appropriately log model parameters and metrics for comparison.
  • Establish a performance baseline, likely using off-the-shelf libraries and a reduced sample of available data, to produce initial insights or demonstrate feasibility of a model.
  • Communicate outcomes to non-data scientists and actively feeds in discussions about what is achievable within project timelines, and what might be other areas of opportunity.

At Production stage of the project, the Senior Consultant will:

  • Perform extensive feature engineering, where applicable.
  • Develop robust models and statistical analyses, employing appropriate measures of fit to validate their own and colleagues’ work.
  • Build and own complete pipelines, potentially working alongside engineers/developers, and testing performance at scale.
  • Find and fix bugs in pipeline components (before they go into production).
  • Optimize code for time/space efficiency, as needed.
  • Take responsibility managing the model lifecycle.
  • For running new iterations of data through the existing pipeline (as required), perform validation of these results and prepare client deliverables.
  • Communicate findings to client, and incorporate their feedback / domain knowledge to tune a model.

At Platform Development stage, the Senior Consultant will:

  • Expose model functionality to development team —e.g., as a package, or an API following ModelOps best practices.
  • Support engineers / developers / UI team in building end-to-end solution, advocating for needs of client and data science team.
