POSITION INFORMATION

Are you ready to take on a challenge and make an impact by guiding one of Canada’s leading academic health centers in promoting equity and improving services through increased accessibility?
The Ottawa Hospital is looking for a senior coordinator, official languages and accessibility who is passionate about finding and eliminating accessibility barriers, ranging from barriers in the built environment, to linguistic barriers faced by patients accessing care.
The Senior Coordinator is responsible for leading and supporting initiatives, processes, programs, and communications related to official languages and accessibility at TOH. In addition, this role works collaboratively with all levels of organizational stakeholders to address issues related to official languages and accessibility and will recommend potential solutions. The senior coordinator must be capable of fulfilling its functions in both official languages.
This position is critical to supporting patient and staff experience, wellbeing, and safety, as well as supporting the hospital’s compliance with both the Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act and the French Language Services Act.

Key competencies and essential experience include:

  • A thorough understanding of change management principles;
  • Excellent spoken and written communication skills in English, including the ability to brief, summarize, explain and persuade; having such skills in French is considered a strong asset;
  • A solid grasp of the AODA and the Integrated Accessibility Standards Regulation, and knowledge of the FLSA;
  • Experience in developing policies, procedures and guidelines;
  • Experience in implementing policies, procedures and guidelines;
  • Experience in performing reporting to demonstrate compliance with legal requirements;
  • Experience in creating and delivering awareness material and training that is adapted to various audiences.

You will also have the opportunity to collaborate with a variety of teams, including clinicians and corporate services. Most of the work can be performed from home through our hybrid work arrangement options.
