At the Canadian Investment Regulatory Organization (CIRO), we are dedicated to promoting healthy capital markets by regulating fairly and effectively so that investors feel protected and confident investing in their futures. If you are interested in the opportunity to make a difference and to work at an agile and trusted regulator in an inclusive and diverse environment, CIRO is looking for a Senior Public Affairs and Corporate Communications Specialist.
In this position , you will thrive in a communications role that requires you to wear many hats—from media relations, to developing social media content to writing for executives and internal communications. Reporting to Manager, Corporate Communications and Public Affairs, you will develop and create comprehensive communications across multiple channels to contribute to CIRO’s growth and to enhance stakeholder confidence.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develops and implements corporate internal and external communications plans including media relations, social media, and employee communications.
  • Works closely with regulatory areas to identify proactive opportunities, develop and implement measurable communications plans.
  • Proactively develops relationships with investor organizations and leverages their websites, newsletters, events and other communications channels to promote CIRO’s mandate and investor resources.
  • Manages media inquiries to help build CIRO’s reputation and contentious issues.
  • Writes compelling content for CIRO’s website, intranet, and social media (LinkedIn, X, Facebook).
  • Develops speaking remarks for CIRO’s Executive Leadership Team members.
  • Monitors media/social media for contentious issues and alerts key staff about emerging issues.
  • Provides support for government relations initiatives as needed.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

  • Degree and/or diploma in a communications-related discipline.
  • Minimum of seven years of experience in a corporate communications or public relations setting.
  • Previous experience working at a financial institution and/or a Public Relations agency with financial institution clients an asset.
  • Ability to work equally well in both French and English an asset.

  • Self-starter with a strong work ethic who thrives in a fast-paced environment.
  • Exceptional attention to detail with strong writing, and editing skills and ability to keep content current.
  • Demonstrated ability to analyze communication needs and create effective holistic communications for different audiences – both internal and external.
  • Proven ability to transform technical information into easy-to-understand material for key audiences.
  • Media relations experience, including the development and implementation media plans.
  • Strong working relationships with key financial media, and high degree of trust with members of the media through proactive outreach.
  • Ability to analyze and interpret data and use those insights to develop actionable ideas.
  • Knowledge of social media and digital communications tools, best practices, trends and analytics.
  • Experience creating content for web, social and digital collaboration tools (i.e. SharePoint).
  • Demonstrated project management expertise working in environments with stressful, time sensitive deadlines
  • Strong interpersonal skills and a proven ability to cultivate strong partnerships and collaborate effectively within a team and across the organization.
