About the Role
Are you looking for a challenging yet rewarding job opportunity that allows you to work in a friendly but high-performing team environment? Look no further! We are seeking a talented Senior Corporate Lawyer to join our team and contribute to our success at AGL, on a permanent basis.
Internally referred to as the Senior Corporate Lawyer – Technology & Telecommunications, you will help AGL achieve its strategic objectives and manage legal risk through the independent and timely provision of legal services and advice. This role will focus on technology, corporate procurement and telecommunications related legal matters, in particular focusing on technology transformation projects.
What you’ll be doing:

Reporting to the Group Counsel – Technology & Telecommunications, you will:

  • Assist the Group Counsel – Technology and Telecommunications as required to ensure that the Legal Team operates efficiently and with strategic impact.
  • Assist the Group Counsel – Technology and Telecommunications in supporting AGL’s ongoing retail transformation program to simplify the business and technology stack, in order to transform the way AGL operates and to deliver an industry-leading digital experience for customers.
  • Lead, mentor and supervise Corporate Lawyers.
  • Collaborate with other Legal Team members and assist with cross-over of work and overflow as necessary.
  • Provide relevant, strategic and actionable advice to the designated business units.
  • Maintain independence and strong relationships and influence in order to protect AGL’s legal position and help Technology, Corporate Procurement and Telecommunications teams, and other areas of AGL (as required) achieve their objectives.
  • Apply an internal overlay to external advice received to ensure it is applicable to the business imperatives that AGL faces.
  • Maintain a high level of expertise in relevant areas of law for Technology, Corporate Procurement and Telecommunications, including law related to technology contracts, general contract law issues, intellectual property, privacy and data security.
  • Demonstrate AGL values by acting in the best interests of AGL at all times and working together across the business to create the best overall results and decisions. Encourage and value the diversity of AGL’s workforce, upholding AGL’s inclusive workplace culture.

About You
You will be an experienced corporate lawyer, who is a team player and brings strong stakeholder management skills. You will have a strong work ethic and have the independence and autonomy to manage your own portfolio. There are some major and impactful technology projects in the pipeline, so experience working on large and complex projects will be ideal.

What you’ll bring to the table

  • Relevant top tier and/or in house experience for a senior legal leadership role supporting a customer facing business in a highly competitive sector, with extensive years PQE
  • Strong Technology and Procurement skillset. Telecommunications experience is desirable
  • Ability to lead complex legal matters
  • Ability to lead business change in response to changes in the regulatory and commercial environment
  • Bachelor of Laws degree or equivalent and admitted to practice in Australia
