We are seeking a Senior Data Scientist who displays strong characteristics of AIP Publishing’s cultural principles: Progressive; Researcher-Focused; Experimental; Equitable; Authentic; Action-Oriented; and Collaborative to play a pivotal role in leading our data science initiatives and driving significant advancements in our data capabilities.
The Senior Data Scientist, reporting to the Director if Data and Analytics, will manage data-driven projects, develop predictive models, and provide strategic insights that influence decision-making throughout the organization. They will be involved in the entire data lifecycle, from collecting and cleaning data to developing and implementing predictive models or algorithms. Their expertise will be crucial in driving our data science initiatives and advancing our data capabilities across the organization.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead efforts to harness data analytics and machine learning to optimize processes across editorial, marketing, sales, and operations.
  • Drive innovation by applying advanced analytics techniques, such as machine learning, natural language processing, and computer vision, to solve complex business problems.
  • Leverage Azure Data Lake Storage Gen 2 and Microsoft Fabric to process and analyze large-scale datasets, including author submissions, article publishing and usage, citations, author demographics, and clickstream data.
  • Mentor and educate a team of data engineers and analysts, fostering a culture of continuous learning and innovation.

    Requirements

  • Master’s or PhD in Data Science, Computer Science, Statistics, Mathematics, or a related field or equivalent professional experience.

  • Proven experience (5+ years) in applying advanced data science techniques to solve complex problems, with a proven track record in supporting data-driven decision making.
  • Experience in the STM scientific process or in STM publishing preferred but not required.
  • Strong background in advanced statistics, mathematics, and predictive modeling.
  • Strong proficiency in programming languages such as Python, R, or Scala.
  • Extensive experience with machine learning frameworks and libraries (e.g., TensorFlow, PyTorch, Scikit-learn).
  • Excellent understanding of data manipulation and visualization tools (e.g., SQL, Tableau, PowerBI).
  • Demonstrated ability to lead and manage data science teams and projects.
  • Excellent problem-solving and critical thinking skills.
  • Strong communication skills, with the ability to present complex data insights to non-technical stakeholders
