YOUR SKILLS & ABILITIES (REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS)

  • Candidate should have one of the following engineering degrees: BSE, BS in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Computer Science, Math, Chemistry, Metallurgical Engineering, Engineering Mechanics, Aeronautical Engineering, Civil Engineering, Physics, Materials Engineering
  • At least 5-7 years of experience in PSDS or Vehicle Wire Harness Design or related fields.
  • Preferred UG/Teamcenter experience.
  • Familiarity with PSDS component physical and/or virtual test methods.
  • Previous subsystem and/or component testing experience in automotive.
  • Interpersonal skills to work effectively with others, including global partners
  • Working knowledge of vehicle development process
  • Proficient in Microsoft Suite
  • Analytical and program coordination problem solving skills
  • In depth knowledge of vehicle electrical architecture and related systems

Responsibilities:

THE ROLE:

The Power and Signal Distribution Systems (PSDS) consist of Low & High Voltage Wire Harnesses/Cables interfacing with electrical devices throughout the vehicle. PSDS also consists of a variety of sub-components (i.e., coax, LVDS/USB and ethernet cables, clips, coverings, connectors, etc).
The Power and Signal Distribution Systems (PSDS) DRE is responsible for the design, validation, and release of the harnesses/cables for vehicle programs.
It is a Senior DRE position within Mechatronics & Sensing Hardware Team. The position requires global collaboration with vehicle program teams, suppliers, and other product development teams (i.e., electrical architecture, interiors/exterior, body, chassis, vehicle validation, safety, purchasing, marketing, and manufacturing) to integrate and execute the harnesses and cables in the vehicle.
The PDSD Release Engineer will directly affect the quality, durability and performance of future ICE and electric vehicles manufactured by GM.

WHAT YOU’LL DO:

  • Lead the design, validation, and execution of assigned wire harness and cable assemblies, including all sub-components.
  • Lead the integration of the assigned harnesses/cables within the vehicle architecture
  • Provide direction to UG Designers
  • Meet program deliverables and imperatives per the PDS PDT Key Task Scheduler.
  • Execute root cause and problem resolution of vehicle or component development or validation issues.
  • Set priority and urgency for Engineering Change Requests, Problem Resolution, and Development / Validation Plans
  • Complete warranty reduction efforts on current product programs
  • Support all virtual and physical build events
  • Travels as required
  • Interface with Lead DRE and Technical Specialists on design direction
  • Leads discussions with program teams on design and execution in leadership forums
  • Provides complexity & cost reduction ideas as a direct interface with marketing, program management, purchasing and suppliers
  • Expected to optimize a comprehensive and detailed plan to validate the assigned component to its technical requirements.
  • Facilitates validation coordination with supplier validation representatives within the PDT meeting.
  • Reviews and approves component DV & PV ADVP&R
  • Track the execution of component hardware validation and facilitate approval with SMEs as needed
  • Documents test failures in PRTS
  • Ensures DV and PV are completed on time to the validation milestones
  • Ensures all test documentation is completed by Validation Documentation Complete milestone and completes validation action plan or 3660 in support of launch.
