Responsibilities:

The Senior Development Assessment Planner forms part of our Development and Building team. This team is responsible for the delivery of Development Assessment and Pre-lodgment and specialist advice, Building Code of Australia requirements and Building Certification. The department facilitates quality, compliant, sustainable development across the LGA ranging from established urban areas, through to urban renewal activity centres, future growth areas and environmental sensitive areas.
You will primarily be involved in the direction and control of the development assessment function within the Environment and Planning Directorate, in consultation with and under the guidance of a Coordinator Development Assessment. You will have the opportunity to evaluate significant, large, complex or sensitive developments.

This role also involves:

  • Attending and conducting cases before the Land and Environment Court, including the preparation and presentation of required evidence and relevant documents. Liaise with Council’s Solicitors as required and represent Council as an expert witness
  • Prepare reports and present the applications the Georges River Local Planning Panel and the Sydney South Planning Panel
  • Provide accurate information to Strategic Planning for inclusion in Section 10.7 Planning Certificates
  • Participate in any internal review of development applications or review of preliminary development proposals and provide relevant professional advice
  • Facilitate, mediate and consult with the Community in relation to any objections received to relevant to applications
  • Provide assistance to members of the public on matters relating to the functioning on the Unit with particular reference to development assessment matters
