Description:

THE OPPORTUNITY:

The Investment and Development Office (IDO) supports destination and product development and investment in Ontario’s tourism industry. In partnership with industry organizations, the private sector and municipalities, IDO supports the enhancement of festivals and events across the province; promotes Ontario as a tourism investment destination; and develops resources and tools to meet industry needs and encourage industry growth. The Branch facilitates the development of tourism experiences and destinations. Working with the tourism industry, manages the festival and event funding programs including Experience Ontario and Marquee Event and the investment funding program known as Tourism Development Fund.
As a Senior Development Consultant, on any given day you may be talking with senior government officials, members of the public, other governments, and industry partners. You may be designing grant programs, managing transfer payment agreements, writing information notes, reviewing proposals and making recommendations to support the sustainability and recovery of the tourism industry.

BUSINESS AND TOURISM KNOWLEDGE

  • Knowledge of Ontario’s tourism and hospitality industry, including strategies, programs and services, product development and investment practices.
  • You have knowledge of community economic development, business administration, economics, finance, business consultancy, business development methods and principles related to the tourism industry.
  • You understand the product development cycle related to tourism development and the investment practices of the tourism industry.

RESEARCH, ANALYTICAL AND EVALUATIVE SKILLS:

  • You can gather and assess information from a variety of sources and develop resources to support the Ontario tourism industry.
  • You have analytical and problem-solving skills to resolve complex issues.
  • You can analyze, interpret data and information and evaluate its significance.

PROJECT MANAGEMENT SKILLS:

  • You have project management, financial analysis and organizational skills.
  • You can manage complex projects involving a range internal and external stakeholders and management consultants.

COMMUNICATION AND INTERPERSONAL SKILLS:

  • You have excellent presentation skills and are a highly effective communicator able to quickly establish business rapport with industry executives.
  • You have the ability to discuss complex issues with senior government officials and industry leaders.
  • You can work with a diverse client group and senior management.
  • You are proficient with standard computer software to conduct research and prepare reports.

Responsibilities:

In this role you will:

  • Support the design, development and implementation of programs and services that assist with industry recovery, enhancement of Ontario’s tourism products and experiences and increased investment (domestic and FDI) in the tourism and hospitality sectors.
  • Analyze program data and performance metrics and identify gaps/opportunities for new and expanded products and experiences in priority areas.
  • Work with other Senior Program Consultants to coordinate the delivery of Ministry grant programs, as well as potential new programs aimed at advancing sector recovery and growth.
  • Monitor and report on projects and programs, manage issues, prepare briefing and decision notes, event notes and compile data to support project or program recommendations for approval.
  • Provide advice and support to stakeholders on applications to the various funding programs and maintain close working relationships with industry stakeholders, other ministries and other levels of government.
