Description:
The Director of Scientific & Regulatory Affairs leads in the identification and mitigation of scientific and regulatory developments impacting the usage of ingredients, the formulation of products, and the implementation of nutrition policies and regulatory measures. In close collaboration with Public Affairs, SRA Advocacy engages and leads in advocacy efforts, particularly with decision-making bodies, and develops industry and trade association strategies. Internally, SRA Advocacy informs immediate and longer-term business strategy, provides strategic support to countries, and builds relevant capability.
QUALIFICATIONS & REQUIREMENTS
- 15+ years of work experience in global science and regulatory affairs or related field.
- Ability to represent the Company and the beverage industry in various external forums and interact with external stakeholders. Ability to explain complex scientific data, reports or issues.
- Expert knowledge of the regulatory and political landscape (e.g., regulations, issues) affecting food and beverages globally. This includes the ability to manage complex regulatory and policy issues affecting products, ingredients, or labeling.
- Ability to engage, strategize, collaborate, and lead (both internally and externally) food and beverage policy initiatives that have the potential to negatively or positively impact the Company.
- Ensuring that our business is not unduly restricted. This requires an understanding of the key issues and the relevant, credible science; the ability to assess risk; skills in strategic thinking and planning; the ability to build and articulate complex scientific arguments in a clear and compelling way; and the ability to partner with, collaborate with, and/or influence key internal and external stakeholders.
- Good knowledge of nutrition science and dietary intake principles as well as good knowledge of general food safety science. This includes knowledge of the nature, properties, and adverse effects of nutrients and food additives / ingredients (LNCS, sugar etc). Further, requires understanding of the concept of nutrient profiles and nutrient labelling and how these shape nutrition strategies and advocacy policies.
Responsibilities:
- Develop and drive an Ingredients and Nutrition advocacy strategy and plans, short and long term – with an immediate focus on ingredients.
- Contribute to the development and drive execution in of The Coca-Cola Company’s global nutrition strategy for innovation.
- Partner with the business on nutrition policy and regulatory strategies to enable the acceleration of growth of our business in both existing and new beverage categories.
- Provide ingredient and nutrition science thought leadership, stewardship, and governance to the Company to enable the portfolio growth objectives and the achievement of The Coca-Cola Company Vision.
- Develop and lead a integrated advocacy strategy that enables the continuous use of key ingredients and in particular LNCS.
- Represent at industry trade organizations and relevant science forums and provide leadership for collective action.
- Establish sustainable networks and relationships in the regulatory, nutrition and public health policy and industry arena.
- Maintain, enhance, and develop relationships/networks with external experts, government agencies, NGOs and other stakeholders on issues relating to nutrition and health, food safety and food regulatory matters to advance company positions.
