The Australian Bureau of Statistics (ABS) is looking to fill the role of Senior Dynamics Solution Designer or Dynamics Solution Architect within the Technology & Security Division (TSD).

Responsibilities:

A technical specialist role either as a Senior Dynamics Solution Designer or Dynamics Solution Architect requires an extensive understanding, engagement, and delivery experience within the specialist area to work closely with business areas and the Microsoft Dynamics (Dynamics) technical team to create or refactor solutions, within the existing development environments, to support simplified system maintainability. Within ABS there are three business areas with Dynamics applications.

  • Within the Data Integration section: The Microdata team provides privileged access to de-identified granular data (down to person or business entity) in accordance with its ‘Five Safes’ framework. This framework has elements for safe people, projects, settings, data, and outputs. The business process to evaluate and manage a project proposal against these five safes is complex, requires interactions with multiple stakeholders and typically takes a long-elapsed time to complete.

To manage this process the ABS has developed a minimum viable product in the MyData Portal as a Power Pages site, with data reflected within an internally facing Dynamics Application for ABS administrators. The portal supports authenticated external stakeholders (Data custodians, Contact Officers, General Managers and Approvers) and allows users with these web roles to access services relating to their onboarding, training, and project submissions, while monitoring progress of their requests. The internally facing Dynamics application maintains entities to support the business function for Portal Users, Organisations, Project Submissions, Change Requests, Researchers and Data objects, Linkage Requests, Approvals and more. Power Automate is used extensively to provide much automation for existing processes, and Dashboards are used to direct Administrators to manage tasks, activities and emails relating to requests from portal users and administrative tasks.

  • Within the Statistical Modules section: ANZSCO describes data for governments, industry, and business to inform and shape educational pathways, skilled migration programs and workforce strategies that equip Australians with skills to get jobs and stay employed. The ANZSCO review aims to receive feedback from stakeholders about the classification and the system will manage the feedback and stakeholder engagement. Feedback is managed over specific time periods, and bulk emails are sent for specific events. The ANZSCO Dynamics application has been developed and requires some refinements potentially for use by other classification areas
  • Within the Census Media Hub section: The business teams run a stakeholder management system to track events, meetings, activities associated with Census stakeholders. Information from this is exported to the Census website to promote Census events, and a Dynamics 365 application is used for these purposes.

Each of these systems requires further development and ongoing support. The selected solution designer/developer will work in a small team using an agile (Scrum) approach to design, develop, test and deploy features agreed to by the product owner within regular sprint cycles and releases.
The ABS expects this role to provide Dynamics solution leadership through design and development advice to the product owner and technical team ahead of feature development.
