Description:

GENERAL DESCRIPTION:

As a member of the Human Resources staff, he/she will work with the Corporate Director of Human Resources to carry out employee relations matters at the different entities along with ensuring compliance. The Senior Employee Relations Manager will be involved in company-wide Employee Relations such as investigations, complaints, disciplinary actions, suspensions and terminations. This role will in addition monitor/ensure compliance with all local/state/federal mandated reports.

EDUCATION & PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

  • 4-year bachelor’s degree in Human Resources or Business Management, or related major preferred.
  • 2+ years in Hotel/Resort as a Human Resources Generalist or higher.
  • Hotel industry work experience, demonstrating progressive career growth and a pattern of exceptional performance.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, advanced Excel Skills.
  • Have proficient training, coaching and counseling skills.
  • Must be able to work a flexible schedule when needed.
  • Must be able to sit, walk and bend throughout day
  • Frequently use hands for keyboard and arms to reach.
  • Must be able to type at least 40 WPM.
  • Valid driver’s license required.
  • Communication Requirements:
  • Able to communicate effectively in English, both verbally and in writing.
  • Able to effectively deal with internal and external customers, some of whom will require high levels of patience, tact and diplomacy to diffuse anger, collect accurate information and resolve conflicts.
  • Bilingual (Spanish) preferred

Responsibilities:

  • Partner with Directors, Managers, Supervisors and team to address any employee-related concerns.
  • Advise and train managers and supervisors on best employee relations practices and strategies for mitigating employee grievances.
  • Meet with employee to conduct investigations and take proper meeting notes for recordkeeping purposes.
  • Based on investigation results determine what/if progressive disciplinary action may need to be taken. Ensure previous disciplinary actions on file are taken into account and process proper suspension and termination notices if required.
  • Follow up with employees to ensure investigations are properly addressed and closed.
  • Meet with managers/supervisors/staff regarding findings of investigations and monitor investigation outcomes.
  • Provides support and guidance to HR generalists, management, and other staff when complex, specialized, and sensitive questions and issues arise; may be required to administer and execute routine tasks in delicate circumstances such as providing reasonable accommodations, investigating allegations of wrongdoing, and terminations.
  • Utilizes an “open door” policy to acknowledge associate problems or concerns in a timely manner
  • Support Corporate HR Director in administering all other corporate initiatives such as annual merit process, benefit enrollment, wage and hour surveys, etc.
  • Ensure compliance with employment laws, government agencies, and company policies and procedures. Conduct annual HR compliance/standards self-audit, and various external audits
  • Communicate and interpret all company and hotel policies/procedures
  • Submit required documentation in response to unemployment claims. Participate in unemployment hearings as needed
  • Ensure worker’s compensation claims are properly documented and reported. Review worker’s compensation claim forms and follow up with managers and adjustors regarding any injuries and subsequent investigations.
  • Ensure all UI, SDI, PFL, etc., notices are all completed and submitted within the required timeframe and that a copy is retained for company records.
  • Must be able to take descriptive presentable notes during any meetings including and not limited to investigations, departmental meetings, court hearings etc.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
