About the Role
We have an exciting opportunity for a Senior Lawyer to join our Employment Legal team. In this role, you will be responsible for providing expert employment law and employee relations (ER) advice and support to all areas of the business across a range of employment matters. Some of the things you’ll be working on include - litigation, transactions, ER policy, regulatory matters, projects, and case management of high risk/high profile individual ER matters. You will develop strong collaborative relationships with your ER colleagues and various stakeholders including senior executives, Talent and Culture Heads and external lawyers.

What will your day look like?
Some of your accountabilities include (but are not limited to):
Provide specialist ER services and strategic leadership to senior ANZ management, Talent & Culture Heads, consultants, and advisors to further develop ANZ HR capabilities, the ANZ People Strategy and business goals.
Provide high level strategic and technical support to Group projects and BAU activities.
Provide expert advice for the management of employment law matters and employment law related litigation in tribunals and courts which have implications across ANZ and/or brand/reputational risks.
Exercise discretion to determine when external legal services are required in litigation matters.
Broker external legal services/representation regarding legal action brought against ANZ and provide advice and support to negotiate and achieve optimal outcomes.
Manage litigation budgets with businesses and external legal advisors. Keep work inhouse rather than brief out where possible.
Develop strong working relationships with the Talent & Culture community.
Manage and maintain relationships with key external stakeholders, including other banks and legal service providers.
Ensure internal stakeholders are provided with quality ER services, with a particular focus on being proactive, efficient and ‘adding value’.
What will you bring?
To grow and be successful in this role, you will ideally bring the following:
Strong experience as an employment lawyer in a law firm or in-house.
Experience managing employment litigation and providing employment legal advice.
Experience providing employment legal advice on transfer of business matters.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills, strategic thinking, and decision-making skills
Demonstrated experience and success in managing stakeholders at all levels.
Well-developed influencing, negotiation, and coaching skills.
Ability to build strong relationships.
A desire to continuously learn and grow and to share your learnings with others.
