SKILLS AND CAPABILITIES

We are seeking an individual with the following skills and capabilities:

  • Well-developed oral and written communication skills, including a proven ability to draft high quality briefings, meeting minutes, reports and email communications.
  • Ability to build rapport and work constructively with colleagues and a diverse range of internal and external stakeholders.
  • Ability to exercise initiative, sound judgement and to manage sensitive interactions with key stakeholders.
  • High level of organisation with ability to forward think, plan and problem solve.
  • Good understanding of the Australian Government’s employment services, or the ability to rapidly acquire a detailed understanding of the policy and program landscape.

Responsibilities:

Reporting to the Assistant Director, Engagement and Governance, the Senior Engagement and Governance Officer will play a vital role in ensuring that the voices of services users are heard and used to improve the Department’s policies and programs. You will lead the implementation of best practice stakeholder engagement, applying your sound judgement to manage issues sensitively. Working across the Department, you will coordinate input to briefings to support our senior executive’s strategic engagement. You will also:

  • Manage engagements with internal and external stakeholders to improve the Department’s relationships with key community advocacy groups and our domestic and international government partners.
  • Establish and manage new engagement panels to inform future employment services policy, including developing and implementing recruitment strategies for panel members, performing secretariat functions and liaising with policy line areas.
  • Drafting and coordinating briefings for our senior executive from across the division and broader portfolio. This includes professionally challenging input received from other areas to ensure that it is fit for purpose and fully cognisant of any relevant stakeholder sensitivities.
  • Reviewing and streamlining the governance and secretariat functions of the Program Integrity Subcommittee for Employment Services (PISCES) meetings to implement a more effective and efficient process, with a view to continual improvement.
  • Providing strategic advice on best practice approaches for new and redesigned engagement and governance mechanisms.
