Description:

About the team we are recruiting to
Do you want to make a real difference to the lives of residents and support local business in Coventry? If so, this may be the role you are looking for!
Coventry is an exciting place to live and work. We are a culturally diverse City, awarded the ‘City of Culture’ and have been host to several exciting events such as the Commonwealth Games and the BBC Radio1 Big Weekender.
We value diverse perspectives and experiences and are striving to create a workplace culture that is inclusive, is accepting of all and is free from discrimination and bias.
Coventry City Council has a team focused on developing and delivering innovative flood and drainage solutions on a citywide scale in collaboration with our partners. The team is led by the Flood Risk Manager within the City Services directorate.
The team is constructed of three key areas, flood management, drainage engineering improvements and advice on planning applications. The team act as the Council’s Lead Local Flood Authority providing professional support and advice on flood and drainage and be instrumental in developing its approach to the forthcoming changes to the Flood and Water Management Act.
What is the job role?
This is a fantastic career opportunity for the right candidate to work within a team to implement the Council’s roles and responsibilities as the Lead Local Flood Authority and to work within a forward thinking team to design and implement drainage engineering schemes.
The scale of the challenge will require you to work collaboratively across the Council and also with partner organisations to investigate and determine solutions to flood risk and drainage issues across the city.
Working alongside the Council’s Highway Operations and Development team you will have a senior role in the delivery of the Council’s programme to implement sustainable and maintainable flood reduction and drainage improvement solutions across the city.
Who are we looking for?
You will be an experienced and motivated person, who is passionate about delivery of projects on time and to budget for Coventry city. We are looking for an inclusive leader who values diversity and promotes a culture of respect, collaboration and continuous improvement with a proven track record in delivering projects and works programmes.
You will have excellent communication skills and be able to convey complex technical information in a way that reaches a wide audience and underpins our vision to make a greener, flood resilient city to meet the climate change challenge.
Within the team, women and people from minority ethnic backgrounds are currently under-represented, as a result we would like to encourage both women and people from minority ethnic backgrounds to apply for this post. This does not prevent any other applicants from applying.
