Senior Engineer in Energy Modelling (Job Level 7)

Duties/Pligte
The CRSES is looking for a Senior Engineer to assist and support the Centre in energy modelling activities and projects. The duties of the incumbent will include:
-

Energy systems modelling with the aim to develop energy system models in various modelling platforms and software to simulate energy systems as per project requirements;

• Research activities relating to the planning and execution of research projects to address challenges in the South African energy landscape;
• Analysis and development of datasets for use as input to energy models;
• Conducting simulations to assess the performance of different energy pathways, considering various scenarios and optimisations of energy production, transmission and storage;
• Providing technical input and support to aid in policy development;
• Assisting with project management by leading project management activities to ensure that projects are delivered on time and within budget;
• Authoring research papers, reports and presentations, and presenting findings at relevant meetings, workshops and conferences;
• Providing mentorship to junior researchers and assisting with skills development within the Centre.

Job Requirements/Pos Vereistes

• An M.Sc. or M.Eng. in a relevant engineering field - candidates with an additional qualification in energy economics and/or renewable and sustainable energy will be given preference;
• Ten to fifteen years’ industry experience in the electricity or energy field;
• Advanced modelling capability in PLEXOS and/or PyPSA;
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English.
