Responsibilities:

WHAT WILL YOU BE DOING AT DEEPL?

Our Product Verticals are cross-functional organisations that are grouped around a specific set of products and take end-to-end responsibility for their development. As a Senior Engineering Manager for one of our Product Verticals, you will set the overall strategy, evolve the structure of the track and support the professional development of the Engineering Managers and Staff Engineers reporting to you. Your primary responsibility will be to work with your peers, Product Management and Research colleagues and the VP Engineering to drive the technical and strategic development of the track.

YOUR RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Product Development & Strategy: Together with your research and product colleagues and key stakeholders from the leadership team, you will set the direction for product development in the track.
  • Delivery & Engineering Excellence: Together with key stakeholders, you will represent the overall goals and strategic objectives of the track. You will also guide the teams in the track to deliver new features on time, maintain existing features and establish high engineering excellence metrics. You will work with your peers in the Engineering organisation to drive the organisation forward by driving initiatives and collaborating on others.
  • People Leadership: You’ll inspire, develop, recruit and motivate a team of Engineering Managers and Staff Engineers, which includes establishing 1:1s with people, setting their development or improvement plans, and establishing a healthy, non-retaliatory feedback culture
  • Track Management: You will be an equal partner to the track’s Group Product Manager and other colleagues, sharing responsibility for the track’s strategy, quarterly goals and business metrics. You will ensure alignment and coordination between teams within the track. You will plan and allocate the track’s engineering resources with the track’s Engineering Managers and Craft Leads (if applicable) and your manager.
  • Managing growth: You enjoy navigating change and finding new solutions with your peers, manager and other stakeholders in a growing and rapidly changing environment.

Qualities we look for

  • A proven track record of successful leadership in engineering roles, with significant experience of managing and scaling high performing teams.
  • Profound technical background in software development and architecture
  • Excellent communication skills in English to set expectations, provide feedback and collaborate with stakeholders across departments.
  • Strategic thinker with strong problem-solving skills, with the ability to align engineering efforts with overall business objectives and navigate complex technical challenges.
  • A proven track record of effectively managing strategic products to increase usage and drive business objectives.
  • A solution-oriented mindset coupled with continuous learning, enabling effective navigation through ambiguity and change
