Description:

POSITION OVERVIEW:

Collins Aerospace Space Systems is looking for a Senior Engineering Manager for our Low Earth Orbit (LEO) Value Stream supporting the NASA International Space Station (ISS) and Commercial Leo Destination (CLD) Programs, including the Boeing CST-100 Starliner. The Senior Engineering Manager will lead a team of project engineers focused on refurbishment and improving the environmental control and life support systems used on-board ISS, product development for upgrades to ISS heritage products, product development for future CLD space missions, and proposal preparation. The candidate will have successfully led teams to deliver highly engineered products in accordance with stakeholder requirements and is visioned as a self-motivated, engaged, hands-on engineering leader who has a passion for developing talent and collaborating with others to solve challenging technical problems.
The Project Engineering Manager is a leader with the responsibility of adhering to policies and procedures, mentoring their associates, developing individualized associate growth plans and preparing their capability to further benefit to Collins Aerospace. The successful candidate will have demonstrated experience in managing associates and project execution including design, fabrication and development of highly engineered electro-mechanical fluidic systems.
The candidate will have successfully led teams to deliver technically compliant and producible products in accordance with stakeholder requirements within budget and schedule.

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor’s degree (typically in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) and a minimum of 10 years of prior relevant experience with a minimum of 5 years managing direct reports or teams
  • Demonstrated experience of managing a team and is well versed in conflict management and resolution
  • Must be a U.S. Person/Permanent Resident “Green Card” holder

Senior Engineering Manager - Project Engineering – Low Earth Orbit (Onsite)

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • The Senior Engineering Manager leads a project engineering team with responsibility for the cost, schedule, and technical performance of assigned programs.
  • Responsible for the leadership, training, mentoring, coaching and oversight of assigned associates
  • Responsible for the design, development, and testing of team-assigned deliverables within schedule and budget constraints
  • Active participation in design reviews in accordance with department policy, customer requirements, and contractual specifications
  • Coordination with cross-functional program leaders within Engineering and across functions to address staffing needs and concerns
  • Development of employee personal development plans, and team/department level succession planning
  • Ensure adherence to department and company policies, ethics and regulatory compliance, and contractual requirements
  • Provide recommendations and resources for continuous improvement activities
  • Review, maintain, and optimize standard work instructions ensuring both process completeness and process speed
  • Coach associates to collaborate cross-functionally with other engineering disciplines and discipline-aligned teams to achieve technical compliance on design, manufacturing and test solutions
  • Acquire and develop engineering talent through recruiting and hiring processes
  • Review, maintain, and optimize standard work instructions ensuring both process completeness
  • Responsible for the preparation, thoroughness and technical excellence of proposals including the labor and material estimating processes
