Job Description
We are investigators, problem solvers, brilliant thinkers, relentless explorers, we are Ultra!
Scope:
To provide technician support to the hardware development team supplying them with custom built test fixtures and cables, carrying modifications and designing and building complex demonstrators and concept models.
Working in a team of two, or more, supporting a large engineering team working on various projects from one off demonstrators to major projects.

Responsible for / Key responsibilities

  • Modification and repair of complex SMT cards to the highest standard in order to keep them in line with the latest stage in development.
  • The build of test racks and fittings that meet the requirements of project test plans.
  • The build and design of test equipment and cable assemblies required to support engineering development and commissioning.
  • Ability to design demonstrators including mechanical enclosures and simple PCBs.
  • Assist other team members in the identification of difficult engineering problems to identify causes and propose workable solutions.
  • Any other miscellaneous lab tasks as required.
  • Produce and maintain records of built test equipment.
  • Maintain a high standard of housekeeping of the assigned area, including all technician equipment and assets.
  • Is expected to adhere to company practices and policies, especially health and safety.
  • Ability to multi-task and prioritise workload, and work under pressure to deliver on multiple projects at the same time.
  • Participating in designs reviews with electrical and mechanical hardware engineers.
  • Estimate time and effort required for activities and deliver to these time and effort estimates to ensure cost and schedule adherence.
  • Manage security of information as defined in the Security manual to ensure compliance with Government regulations.

Role requirements

  • Essential:
  • Willing and able to obtain, and maintain, SC security clearance.
  • Willing and able to obtain, and maintain, DV security clearance.

Qualifications / skills required

  • Essential:
  • Must be highly competent and experienced in electronic wiring and soldering to IPC standards.
  • Experience of prototype builds with a good knowledge of electronic circuits.
  • Must be highly skilled in electronic rework and repair especially to very fine pitch SMT PCBs.
  • Ability to read and understand electronic schematics and wiring schedules, mechanical drawings, mechanical and electronic BOMs.
  • Be able to work under own initiative with minimal information.
  • Able to work with minimal supervision to tight deadlines.
  • Desirable:
  • Experience of using Windchill for version control.
  • Currently certified to IPC-A-610
  • Experience of some electronic testing.
  • Working knowledge of lab measurement equipment.
