Newmont Tanami is on Aboriginal freehold land 540km northwest of Alice Springs. It is a long-life, low-cost, world-class asset in a core Newmont region. The Tanami Expansion 2 project, aims to extend the mine life beyond 2040, investing in a hoisting shaft which will increase the production of the underground mine from 2.6 Mtpa to 3.2 Mtpa. Both the successful exploration within the underground operation and implementation of the first Tanami Expansion has laid the foundation to further develop the operation to remain a major contributor to the Newmont portfolio. A fully equipped camp is located 40km from the site offering leisure facilities for those flying in from Perth, Brisbane, Alice Springs or Darwin.

Responsibilities:

THE ROLE

  • Are you experienced within environmental management, approvals, capital projects and closure reclamation and looking to take the next step in your career with a global company?
  • Are you looking for a workplace that offers true flexibility at Newmont’s exciting operational site at Tanami?
    You will effectively represent, promote and protect the company’s business interests in a manner that is consistent with internal and external standards in addition to community agreements and social impact management plans. You will be driving critical major capital projects, manage contractors, provide specialist support with reclamation and rehabilitation and contribute to the wider activities of the NTO S&ER Department.

KEY TASKS

  • Effectively liaise internally across numerous disciplines to understand project requirements, provide S&ER support and advice during project development, and work towards paving the permitting pathway for major projects.
  • Drive the implementation of permitting requirements for Major Projects. This may include a combination of development of documentation inhouse and use of external consultants for surveys and development of permitting documentation.
  • Maintain major project study schedules for S&ER and approval processes.
  • Manage consultants scopes through the Newmont procurement process achieve the required study outcomes to successfully achieve regulatory approvals.
  • Assist in developing and communicating permitting requirements for Major Projects internally and externally.
  • Support project SMEs to ensure provision of clear and accurate information to inform engagement with internal and external stakeholders as required.
  • Both support and implement the liaison with the numerous regulatory departments and key external stakeholders.
  • Maintain an understanding of relevant legislation and other requirements for the jurisdictions in which Newmont Australia operates and how changes may impact the operations and future expansion opportunities.
  • Report on study performance for SER activities using key performance indicators to both drive improvements or sustain behaviour, compliance and performance required to meet S&ER project requirements.
