Description:

Ballard has a position available for a Senior Environmental Health & Safety (EHS) Specialist covering Burnaby. The Senior EH&S Specialist will report to the Director of Environmental Health and Safety and will be responsible for a variety of tasks focusing on the improvement of environment and health & safety programs globally and specifically in Burnaby.

REQUIREMENTS:

  • 5 - 7 years of related experience
  • Bachelor of Science, Health Science or equivalent
  • Ability to read and understand various applicable legislation
  • Strong interpersonal skills, able to work respectfully and efficiently with a wide range of people from different cultures and educational backgrounds
  • Strong analytical skills, organizational, problem solving and judgement abilities and ability to complete reports.
  • Experience with legal compliance regulations
  • Ability to think creatively and identify innovative solutions to complex issues
  • Ability to work independently
  • Experience working within manufacturing, lab and engineering environments
  • CRSP certification, or working toward CRSP certification an asset
    The typical hiring range for this position is $73,000 - 93,800. Ballard considers many factors in determining total compensation, including the successful Candidate’s job-related knowledge, skills, experience, position location, and internal equity. Responsibilities:

  • Demonstrate active, visible, and professional environmental health and safety leadership at all times
  • Assist with the implementation and improvement of Ballard’s Corporate Environment and Health & Safety Management System, including EH&S goals and initiatives
  • Develop and implement training solutions to ensure that employees are aware of potential risks and understand how to perform their jobs and activities in a safe and environmentally responsible manner,
  • Participate in regular EH&S inspections and perform preliminary Occupational Hygiene testing, Noise surveys, Light surveys etc.
  • Assist hazard assessments and the incident investigation process, including root cause analysis and identification of corrective action plans for technology and development and research labs
  • Manage Chemical Management Program, including SDS approvals, training, and inventory
  • Participate in formal EH&S reviews of existing equipment modifications, new equipment purchases, and changes in site processes
  • Assist in claims management and recovery at work programs
  • Participate in internal audit teams (regulatory, ISO9001, ISO14001, ISO 45001 and others as required)
  • Oversee waste management, minimizing risk to the company, as well as environmental pollution
