Description:
The post holder will work within an established epilepsy specialist nursing service for adults with intellectual disability. The service is an integral part of a wider multidisciplinary epilepsy team in Nottinghamshire providing diagnosis and treatment of complex epilepsies and associated health conditions through specialist nurse-led clinics, community home visits, and telephone advice. The post holder will assist in the delivery and continued development of a high quality, specialist service to adults with Intellectual Disability and teenagers in transition. The person will work in partnership with epilepsy colleagues in Neurology at Nottingham University Hospitals to deliver a countywide integrated Epilepsy and Intellectual Disability Specialist Service.
The post holder will act as a source of specialist advice and information for patients, carers, and health professionals. The post holder will promote patient focussed care and act as a resource for Intellectual Disability Service colleagues. The post holder will maintain a high level of awareness of relevant research, best practice and National recommendations and ensure this is reflected in their clinical practice. The post holder will prescribe and review medication for therapeutic effectiveness, appropriate to patient needs and in accordance with evidence-based practice and national and practice protocols, and within scope of practice.
The post holder will provide evidence-based training and education to patients, carers, healthcare professionals and social care services.
