Job Description
Type of employment: Permanent rotating 2 weeks in 2 weeks out (Days and Nights) to support the Artemis Gold, Blackwater Assay Lab Artemis Gold Inc. - Home. Accommodations, meals and shuttle bus provided from Vanderhoof or Prince George, BC.
The Senior Assayer/Supervisor is responsible for the overall coordination and scheduling of incoming samples from the mine site, prioritizing samples in order of importance, overseeing the production of the laboratory and reporting results to specific mine departments. This position is also responsible for all client relationships and meeting client needs on projects along with scheduling, supervising and monitoring the quality of work done by SGS onsite personnel.
- Schedule workflow through the lab areas so that client TAT deadlines are met.
- Approve and report Assay results.
- Act as a mediator between the mine site client and SGS.
- Facilitate meetings with client Metallurgists and Geologists.
- Create weekly reports for SGS & the client mine site.
- Participate in weekly SGS meetings via conference calls.
- Conduct weekly Health & Safety meetings with staff.
- Create monthly (SGS) health and safety reports and as required by the client site.
- Conduct ongoing performance reviews of SGS employees.
- Schedule and maintain a shift schedule for all staff going in and out of the mine site.
- Ensure that staff timesheets are submitted to payroll.
- May be asked to conduct job interviews for new laboratory staff.
- May be asked to assist with site commissioning and new equipment.
- Ensure required consumables/supplies are available, set minimum/maximum inventory limits and reorder when necessary.
- Train & motivate staff, set goals, review performance and assess training needs
- Monitor and maintain lab QC standards. Responsible for the quality of all data released by the Crews.
- Perform accident/Incident Investigation including root cause analysis and corrective actions
- Ensure all logs and records are maintained and up to date in every respect
- Ensure equipment is maintained properly including organizing preventative maintenance schedule and make arrangements with contractors
QUALIFICATIONS
- College Diploma/Certificate or University Degree in Chemistry, Geochemistry or a science related discipline is ideal.
- BC Registered Assayer Certification will be an asset.
- 5 – 10 years’ experience in a Wet/Fire Assay related field.
- 1 – 3 years of previous supervisory experience would be a definite asset.
- Strong leadership skills and experience in the supervising of small technical teams, ideally including the supervising of people in a minerals related laboratory
- The incumbent must have time management skills and strong attention to detail
- Must be able to read, understand, and follow work instructions in a safe, accurate and timely manner. and train direct reports with current revisions
- Candidates must be proficient in using various types of computer software (CCLAS, Word, Excel. PowerPoint & Outlook).
- Candidates must demonstrate excellent verbal and written communication skills including grammar and composition. Ability to interpret and manage client expectations.
- Ability to work well with others & independently.
- Works well under pressure.
- Extended hours and shift work will be required.
- Travel to other SGS locations or client locations may be required from time to time.
- Ensures full compliance with the company’s Health & Safety, Code of Integrity, and Professional Conduct policies. Ensures full compliance with the Client Mine Site policies.
- Previous experience using laboratory instruments and the ability to operate and trouble-shoot them.
- Knowledge of good laboratory practices and good management practices.
- Proven time management skills and a strong attention to detail.
Additional Information
Salary: $70k to $80k per year
