THE OPPORTUNITY

To support our existing portfolio of projects, we are looking for an experienced Senior Fire Safety Engineer to join our Infrastructure Buildings and Defence team your intended placement is in Sydney. Therefore, a certain Sydney focus is anticipated from your day-to-day activities, but it is expected that you will contribute to an assist on projects Australia-wide.
In this position you will be professionally responsible for managing projects and ensuring the technical accuracy and adequacy of fire safety engineering deliverables. Your role will also, with the support of senior management, include responsibility for growing and developing the fire safety engineering business of KBR Australia.
Day-to-day activities include developing and delivering the technical data packages that embody the design, specification and engineering services related to fire engineering across buildings, Defence and transport infrastructure projects, inclusive of the guidance and mentoring more junior staff. The role will also interface closely with fire services protection designers and other engineering disciplines within KBR and externally as required. This includes liaising with and pre-emptively managing the expectations of clients, team members, other building professionals.
You will work under broad direction from the Fire Engineering National Lead in conjunction with the regional Building Services team within which you will function. The role includes planning and budgeting of allocated design packages, organising and controlling stakeholders and contributing third parties (sub consultants as required), client technical stakeholders, regulatory technical stakeholders, suppliers, and similar.

Responsibilities:

The Key Technical and Management Skill for this role:

  • 10+ years of experience in Fire Safety Engineering
  • Demonstrated ability to analyse, delegate and manage design work scope.
  • Plans, schedules, and conducts work requiring judgment in the independent evaluation, selection, and adaptation of engineering techniques, procedures, and criteria.
  • Project management and proposal preparation experience along with the ability to write clearly and fluently about technical subjects or project delivery methodologies.
  • Ability to prepare and verify design calculations in fire engineering and modelling using either manual methods or with the aid of computer applications

Desired Technical and Management Skill for this role:

  • Possess or eligible and willing to obtain CPEng, NER, and RPEV, RPEQ, BDC, or equivalent within 6 months.
  • Business acumen, awareness of financial, time, and budgetary constraints and realities are expected from the candidate, on par with the role’s standing.
  • The role will work closely with mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, structural and other engineers in delivery of projects and proposals for a range of clients and infrastructure types.
  • Maintains curiosity and interest to continuously improve technical knowledge and skills
