Tetra Tech is currently looking to hire a Senior Geochemist to be based out of our Vancouver office. This is an opportunity to work with world-class engineers and scientist dedicated to working on mining engineering and environmental projects from conceptual design to final construction. On occasion your expertise may be needed by our parent company on some of their challenging international projects.
The salary range for this position is $120K to $180K. Please note that Tetra Tech considers various factors in determining pay, including but not limited to: education, relevant and demonstrated work experience in the role, skills, geographic location, qualifications, certifications, and other competencies relevant to the needs of the business.

QUALIFICATIONS THAT WOULD MAKE YOU A GREAT CANDIDATE:

  • Relevant geochemical experience and knowledge is required in the areas of Acid Rock Drainage, Metal Leaching potential and overall water quality assessments. Preference will be given to candidates with experience in the mining industry, and experience in one or more of the following areas: predictive modelling; geological mapping and interpretation; ARD ML mitigation design such as covers, material amendments or water treatment.
  • Candidates must possess one or more relevant science or engineering degrees from an accredited university in engineering, geoscience, or environmental science.
  • Knowledge and experience with applicable federal and provincial regulations and guidelines, preferably with a working knowledge of BC, Yukon, Nunavut, and Northwest Territories mine permitting processes.
  • Experience with geochemical modelling software such as PHREEQC, Geochemist’s Workbench, etc.
  • Ability to prepare pragmatic, defensible technical reports in English in accordance with regulatory guidelines, and to communicate and liaise effectively and credibly with members of regulatory bodies, industry, special interest groups and First Nations.
  • Be willing to travel domestically, occasionally in remote and varying environments, sometimes with limited communications and logistical support.
  • Show comprehension and application of strong business ethics and health, safety, and environmental principles.
  • Demonstrated progressive management experience and a desire to build and contribute to an effective team.
  • Previous consulting experience is preferred although not essential.
  • Registered or qualified for registration with an applicable professional association.

Responsibilities:

  • Managing and directing all project phases from project definition to proposal writing, data collection and fieldwork, laboratory management, data analysis, and reporting.
  • Contributing to existing projects with respect to geochemistry components including sampling and geochemical characterization of rocks, water quality assessment and management, predictive monitoring, and prevention mitigation and reclamation of projects with acid drainage, metal leaching or similar geochemical concerns.
  • Conducting geochemical and hydro-chemical fieldwork, data management, QA/QC, data manipulation and geochemical modelling using speciation and mass transport codes.
  • Mentoring and training junior scientific staff and technicians.
