Description:

Thurber has an exciting opportunity for a Senior Geotechnical Engineer to join our team in Ottawa, Ontario.
Thurber is a specialized consulting firm with a focus on geotechnical engineering. Our project work includes transportation, large and small infrastructure, natural hazards, development, and more. We undertake challenging assignments that can include steep terrain, deep foundations, compressible soils, landslides, contamination, or other complications.
As our Thurber team member, you will work on varied projects and develop your skills with guidance and support from subject matter specialists, associates, and other senior engineering staff.

QUALIFICATIONS AND ASSETS

  • A degree in Civil or Geological Engineering;
  • Graduate Degree (M.Eng. or M.Sc.) is considered an asset;
  • A minimum of 12 years of progressive experience in geotechnical engineering, preferably as a consulting engineer;
  • Eligible for registration as a Professional Engineer in Ontario;
  • Proficiency in spoken and written English language is required;
  • Strong attention to detail;
  • An effective communicator with strong writing skills;
  • Business development experience is an asset;
  • Strong organizational, interpersonal, and communication skills;
  • A high level of proficiency with current geotechnical software applications;
  • Valid Class G Ontario Driver’s License;
  • Ability to work both independently and in a team in various environments.
  • Bilingual (French/English) is an asset.

Responsibilities:

  • Provide technical support and leadership on projects and for staff, including conducting technical reviews of calculations and analyses, as well as performing technical analyses where appropriate;
  • Identifying new opportunities and working with the Branch Manager or other specialists within the firm to develop them;
  • Provide guidance, and where necessary, support in coordination, preparation of cost estimates, tender submissions, technical documentation, client reports, progress reports, project scheduling/resourcing, and meeting deadlines and budgets on projects;
  • Scoping projects and assisting in the preparation of proposals;
  • Mentoring, coaching, and training of staff;
  • Establishing, developing, promoting, and maintaining relationships with clients;
  • Participation in field work as needed to meet project objectives and client expectations;
  • Manage projects and lead multidisciplinary teams and,
  • Travel to project locations, as well as to Client offices and other Thurber Branch offices.
    This senior engineering position is primarily office-based with occasional field work and opportunities for continued career growth within the company.
