JOB OVERVIEW:

We are seeking a talented Senior Hardware Engineer to join our Engineering team working across a broad range of Energy Management hardware solutions. You will be exposed to a wide range of technical challenges, from architectural design, to PCBA bring up and
debugging.
The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of both analog and digital design. Familiarity with home energy management systems, and related assets such as Photovoltaic (PV), Electric vehicle (EV), Hybrid Inverter, and Heat Pumps, would be a distinct advantage.
This role will involve working in a small multi-functional team, with hands-on involvement in design, development, and testing. A demonstrated ability in robust hardware design, troubleshooting, peer review, and providing technical direction, are all essential.
While experience in the energy industry and design of embedded IoT devices is preferred,
it is not essential.

REQUIREMENTS:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electronic or Computer Engineering or a related field, or equivalent work experience.
  • At least 7 years experience as an Hardware Engineer, designing and testing both analog and digital circuitry on printed circuit board assemblies.
  • Strong embedded design skills for products that include microprocessors and analog circuitry.
  • Experienced designing AC/DC and DC/DC converters.
  • Experience interfacing hardware peripherals like current sensors, relays, etc.
  • Experience designing PCBAs with both low-voltage and high-voltage elements.
  • Experience designing networked devices using both wired and wireless technologies.
  • Experience in designing for conducting compliance testing, including: Radiated and Conducted Immunity, Radiated and Conducted Emissions, ESD Testing.
  • Experience with bring-up of PCBAs and circuit troubleshooting.
  • Excellent spoken English and general communication skills are required, and previous experience liaising with partner companies and suppliers is desirable.

EXPERIENCE WITH THE FOLLOWING IS AN ADVANTAGE:

  • Experience developing low-level drivers or firmware in C/C++.
  • Development of automated tests using languages such as Python, or C/C++.
  • Working with inter-device communication protocols such as: I2C, SPI, UART, RS485, Modbus, etc., in an embedded environment.
  • Design simulation and analysis, circuit analysis, board level simulation.

Responsibilities:

  • Actively participate in the new and existing product development efforts from concept phase to design transfer and release.
  • Drive circuit level hardware design phases including architecture and design, component selection, schematic entry, board bring-up and integration with systems/assets.
  • Work closely with suppliers in evaluation and verification of OEM products.
  • Work effectively within a multi-functional team including firmware, software, and product design; aligning with the schedule and budget throughout the product life-cycle.
  • Support project teams in general activities related to ongoing product design & development.
  • Implement and evaluate designs to ensure that all compliance requirements (e.g. IEC, UL) are being met throughout the design process.
  • Participate in technical design reviews to ensure electrical design integrity and safety.
  • Generate design specifications, test protocols, execute/automate testing and associated test reports.
  • Develop and implement test procedures to verify design operation and compliance to international standards.
  • Apply robust techniques such as FMEA to minimize occurrence, and root-cause, of product or component failure.
