Description:

Brindle Ward is a fast paced gastroenterology and general medical ward at Chorley Hospital, with a bed capacity of 30 inpatients. We have an established IBD and Liver service and part of the Hepatitis C Network. Working closely with the Nutrition service with opportunities to develop skills in these areas. we work closely with mental health teams and the eating disorder services in the community to best support our patients.
We are looking to recruit a Health care assistant with a passion to developing their knowledge and skills around gastroenterology conditions. Experience within gastroenterology would be desirable but we would keen to support the right individual to build on their experience and leadership. This role is integral in the delivery of high standard of care for our patients during their acute phase. You will need to be flexible and resilient to meet the needs of the service.

You will be responsible for providing a range of personalised care for patients and a range of clinical duties under the guidance and supervision of the team leader/nurse in charge including: assisting patients with personal hygiene, toileting, use of continence aids, catheter care, stoma care, measuring & monitoring patient output, removal of catheters, moving and handling, use of mobility appliances, correct patient positioning, assess pressure areas and skin integrity, ensuring patient safety, taking specimens including blood sugars, taking and recording physical measurements observing patients for changes in condition, carrying out simple dressings, removal of venflons.

  • Provide excellent quality personalised care in accordance with agreed local and national standards.
  • Present a positive image of self, team and the organisation.
  • Take samples from patients for testing or dispatching eg: Urine, sputum, faeces, MRSA swabs
  • Assist patients to meet nutritional needs in line with their individual care plan.
  • Undertake clinical duties relevant to clinical area following achievement of competencies.
  • Assist to maintain patient safety, conforming to health, safety and security legislation, policies, procedures and guidelines.
  • Assist in maintaining standards of care to improve the patient experience and outcome of care.
  • Promote equality in care and practice by recognising, respecting and meeting the needs and choices of individuals
  • Contribute to maintaining safe, clean, and productive care environment, compliant with standards for hygiene and cleanliness.
  • Maintain and develop own competence.
  • Actively try to resolve issues and complaints at local level and then report the outcome to line manager.
